Job Role:
The Mechanical Engineer (3D) is responsible for overseeing all mechanical assembly and installation activities, designing and developing mechanical systems using 3D modelling and simulation tools, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and programme requirements.
The role is a key link between the Project Team and Production and Test Departments to ensure high-quality delivery of all mechanical aspects of projects.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
· Interpret engineering drawings and ensure correct implementation during manufacture and assembly.
· Support design and development of new detailed mechanical designs including 3D models and simulations.
· Supporting test and validation tests to ensure the mechanical systems meet all the necessary, specifications, and industry standards.
· Creating kit lists for the mechanical parts, seek quotations from suppliers and action ordering of parts.
· Monitor progress against project programmes tasks and highlight any risks or delays.
· Assist in identifying additional scope and notifying the Project Coordinator
· Support resolution of manufacturing and installation queries in a timely manner.
· Escalate technical issues to the Engineering Manager and Project Coordinator to mitigate programme issues to Projects.
· Manage external Technical Queries (TQs) as required with the customers technical representative.
· Manage internal TQ’s (as required) from the Engineering Coordinator.
· Participate in tender handovers, project kick-offs, and review meetings.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Strong background in mechanical assembly/fabrication within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Good understanding of health & safety practices.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in using CAD software packages such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and simulation.
- Experience in HV / control & protection equipment.
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
- Experience with fabrication drawings, panel layouts, and mechanical BOMs.
