Overview
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Fire Door Remediator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out remedial works to existing fire doors and doorsets, ensuring that defects identified through inspections are rectified correctly and that doors are returned to a safe, compliant and fully operational condition. The role requires a good understanding of fire door construction, components and installation requirements, together with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out remedial works to existing fire doors and doorsets.
- Repair and adjust fire doors to achieve the required gaps, clearances, alignment and operation.
- Replace damaged, defective or unsuitable fire door components.
- Install or replace intumescent strips, smoke seals, hinges, locks, latches, closers, handles and other fire-rated hardware.
- Carry out repairs to door leaves, frames, architraves and associated joinery where appropriate.
- Undertake repairs to damaged or incorrectly fitted fire doors.
- Make adjustments to doors and frames to ensure correct closing, latching and operation.
- Replace or repair damaged door frames and associated components where required.
- Ensure remedial works are carried out in accordance with manufacturers' instructions and relevant fire safety requirements.
- Identify any defects that cannot be satisfactorily remedied and report these to the Site Manager or Contracts Manager.
- Take accurate measurements and assess the condition of doors and components before undertaking works.
- Complete all works to a high standard, with particular attention to workmanship and compliance..
- Record materials and components used on each job.
- Liaise professionally with site managers, clients, residents and other contractors.
- Maintain a clean and safe working area at all times.
- Follow company RAMS, Health & Safety procedures and site-specific requirements.
- Ensure tools, equipment and materials are used safely and maintained appropriately.
- Report any additional works, access issues, defects or potential compliance concerns promptly.
Skills & ExperienceEssential:
- Proven experience carrying out fire door remedial or repair works.
- Good knowledge of fire door construction and associated components.
- Experience working with existing fire doors and doorsets.
- Good joinery/carpentry skills.
- Ability to identify common fire door defects and carry out appropriate remedial works.
- Understanding of door gaps, alignment, closing and latching requirements.
- Experience fitting fire-rated ironmongery and components.
- Ability to work from inspection reports, schedules and job sheets.
- Good attention to detail and a strong focus on quality.
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily workload.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, professional and punctual approach to work.
Desirable:
- Fire door inspection or installation qualification.
- Relevant NVQ / City & Guilds qualification in Joinery or Carpentry.
- Experience working on commercial refurbishment or compliance projects.
- Experience working in occupied properties, social housing, public-sector or commercial buildings.
- CSCS card or relevant site qualification.
- Knowledge of current fire door standards and relevant legislation.
