We are looking for individuals who are passionate, committed, and enthusiastic to join our support team to help make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by homelessness. You will work as part of the Larne Crisis Accommodation team to provide personalised housing related support services to homeless families and adults at risk.
Being able to positively engage with our clients, you will understand homelessness, housing-related support, and the needs of homeless people.
A support worker’s day is varied & flexibility is required. The people we support live independent lives and as such the support we provide is individually tailored to their needs.
Main Responsibilities:
- Work with clients to draft and implement realistic and achievable support plans and risk assessments, ensuring each client receives personalised support that meets their needs.
- Carry a caseload of key-working clients and continually review and update each client’s support plan.
- Communicating frequently with clients so as to be able to identify their needs and attend to them accordingly.
- Develop effective working relationships with clients, making efforts to break down barriers with those unable and/or reluctant to access support.
- Contribute to the assessment of all Service Users' needs through regular monitoring of general wellbeing.
- Support service users to gain and maintain a tenancy and meet occupancy obligations.
- To encourage client participation in training, education, and social activities.
- Ensure that the accommodation is a safe environment for clients, that risk assessments are regularly practiced and recorded and that maintenance issues are reported.
- Establish and measure service outcomes and report outcomes to the Community Manager.
- Ensure efficient, accurate, and timely completion and filing of all relevant paper and computerised Service User documentation.
- To ensure that project vacancies are promptly let.
- Effectively communicate within and between teams.
- Carry out welfare and fire and health & safety checks of all accommodations at regular intervals.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties.
Essential Criteria:
- Hold 5 GCSEs; including Maths, English (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of the issues affecting homeless people, including women, and housing related support.
- A knowledge of the legislative requirements and an understanding of and ability to adhere to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Health & Safety, Protection of Adults and Children at Risk, and other relevant policies specific to post.
- Understanding GDPR requirements and the need for confidentiality.
- A satisfactory Enhanced Access NI check.
- Knowledge of health & safety.
- Current clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is required for the post.
- IT Skills; Ability to use Microsoft 365.
- Ability to recognise and identify problems and deal with conflict
- Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing all issues.
Desirable Criteria:
- Relevant housing related qualification.
- Knowledge of issues surrounding children and adults at risk.
- Experience of working in partnership with statutory agencies.
- Experience of providing tenancy support.
- Awareness of the need for continued professional development.
- Positive attitude towards Homelessness.
- Ability to empower and motivate families to move on and live independently.
- Knowledge of support plans to include needs and risk assessments.
- Understanding of harm reduction principles.

Pay: £13.42 per hour
