Purpose of the Role
The Account Manager is a mid-level, client-facing role responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of key accounts, delivering exceptional service, and driving commercial growth. Working within the events and event technology sector, the role focuses on building long-term client partnerships, identifying new business opportunities, and ensuring tailored solutions are delivered to meet client objectives.
While this is primarily a non-operational position, the Account Manager will attend selected events to strengthen client relationships, gain first-hand insight into event delivery, and identify opportunities to enhance future services and technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of clients, developing trusted, long-term relationships.
- Gain a thorough understanding of each client's business, objectives, event programmes, and technology requirements to provide tailored solutions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date stakeholder mapping, continually identifying and developing relationships with key decision-makers and influencers across client organisations.
- Adapt communication and engagement style to meet the needs of different clients and stakeholders.
Business Development
- Identify and generate new business opportunities through networking, referrals, industry events, and proactive prospecting.
- Present creative event concepts and technology solutions to prospective clients.
- Maximise revenue by identifying opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional services across the business.
- Analyse client spend, identify growth opportunities, and demonstrate the value and return on investment delivered to clients.
Account Delivery
- Work collaboratively with internal operational project teams to ensure successful delivery of client events.
- Provide timely updates on commercial discussions, contract changes, and client expectations that may impact operational delivery.
- Support clients throughout the event lifecycle, ensuring an exceptional customer experience from planning through to post-event evaluation.
- Attend selected client events to strengthen relationships, support account development, and identify future opportunities.
Commercial & Contract Management
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, opportunities, event activity, and sales pipeline within the CRM system.
- Conduct annual reviews of customer contracts, pricing structures, service levels, and commercial terms.
- Produce regular account performance reports, highlighting commercial performance, client feedback, opportunities, and risks.
- Monitor account profitability and support strategic planning to maximise long-term client value.
Continuous Improvement
- Conduct post-event review meetings to evaluate client satisfaction, gather feedback, and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Keep informed of industry trends, emerging event technologies, and best practice to provide innovative recommendations to clients.
- Contribute to the achievement of Inconnection's strategic objectives, growth plans, and customer experience initiatives.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in Account Management, Client Services, Business Development, or Event Management.
- Experience working within the events, hospitality, experiential, or event technology sector.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience identifying growth opportunities.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Highly organised with excellent planning and time management skills.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to analyse customer spend and commercial performance to identify opportunities for growth.
Desirable
- Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Hospitality, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Experience of working within SAS service clients
- Knowledge of event technology platforms, registration systems, delegate management, mobile event apps, venue sourcing, or virtual/hybrid event solutions.
- Experience managing complex client accounts within an events agency or event technology environment.
Working Arrangements
This is an office-based role with regular face-to-face client meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to travel throughout the UK to attend client meetings, supplier visits, and selected events. Flexibility to work outside standard office hours may occasionally be required to support client needs and live events.
