Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, experienced and professional Electrical Engineer to join our growing team, specialising in Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), electrical remedial works, fault finding and ongoing electrical maintenance across commercial and industrial environments.
The role will involve attending client sites to carry out scheduled maintenance, reactive repairs, electrical remedials and general electrical installation works. You will be responsible for identifying faults, completing repairs efficiently and ensuring electrical installations remain safe, compliant and operational.
The majority of our work is based across London, and applicants should be comfortable travelling throughout Greater London as part of their normal working week. We also undertake a significant amount of work throughout the South East of England, alongside projects for national clients across the UK. As such, there will be an expectation for engineers to travel nationwide from time to time, which may include occasional overnight stays depending on project requirements.
Where work requires travel outside the normal working area or an overnight stay, reasonable travel, accommodation and associated expenses will be covered by the company in accordance with company policy.
The successful candidate will have strong fault-finding abilities, a good working knowledge of BS 7671, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship, documentation and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled electrical PPM and maintenance visits across client sites.
- Complete electrical remedial works identified through EICRs, maintenance inspections, testing programmes and client-reported defects.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults across commercial and industrial electrical installations.
- Undertake repairs, replacements and upgrades to electrical systems, including lighting, emergency lighting, power, distribution equipment and associated wiring systems.
- Complete C1, C2 and FI remedial works arising from Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
- Carry out minor electrical installation and alteration works where required.
- Inspect electrical installations and identify deterioration, defects or potential failures before they result in disruption or downtime.
- Test completed electrical works using appropriate electrical test equipment and ensure installations are safe before being returned to service.
- Carry out maintenance and repairs to distribution boards, protective devices, final circuits, containment systems, accessories and electrical equipment.
- Assist with emergency lighting inspections, testing, repairs and replacements.
- Replace defective components including sockets, switches, luminaires, emergency lighting equipment, protective devices and associated electrical accessories.
- Carry out effective fault finding and root cause analysis to identify recurring electrical problems and recommend appropriate corrective action.
- Complete job sheets, maintenance records, photographs, test results and other required site documentation accurately and promptly.
- Clearly communicate additional defects or recommended works to the office and management team for quotation and client approval.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site managers, facilities teams and other contractors while attending site.
- Work safely and professionally in occupied commercial environments while minimising disruption to the client's operations.
- Ensure all electrical works comply with BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Health & Safety requirements and relevant industry guidance.
- Maintain company tools, electrical test equipment, PPE and vehicles to the required standard.
- Be prepared to travel throughout London and the South East, with occasional nationwide travel and overnight stays where required by client contracts or project requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in electrical maintenance, PPM, remedial works and fault finding.
- Excellent understanding of commercial electrical installations and distribution systems.
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
- Ability to interpret EICRs and undertake appropriate remedial works against identified observations and defects.
- Competent in electrical inspection, testing and verification of completed works.
- Confident fault-finding electrical circuits and identifying the underlying cause of electrical problems.
- Experience working with lighting, emergency lighting, power circuits, distribution boards, protective devices and general electrical installations.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance and remedial tasks during a working day.
- Good understanding of electrical isolation procedures and safe systems of work.
- Strong attention to detail when completing electrical documentation and reporting defects.
- Professional and confident when communicating directly with clients and site representatives.
- Ability to identify additional maintenance requirements and report potential remedial works accurately.
- Flexibility regarding travel and working locations, including London, the South East and occasional nationwide projects.
Qualifications
Ideally, applicants will hold:
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent
- City & Guilds Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications or equivalent
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Inspection & Testing qualification – 2391 or equivalent
- ECS/JIB card where applicable
- Full UK Driving Licence
Additional qualifications or experience in EICR testing, emergency lighting, EV charging, thermographic surveys or commercial maintenance would be advantageous.
The Role
This position would suit an electrician who enjoys varied work rather than spending every day on a single installation project. You could be completing planned maintenance in the morning, investigating an electrical fault, undertaking EICR remedials and completing minor installation works during the same working day.
London will form the core working area for the role, with regular work throughout the wider South East. Our client base and contracts also extend nationwide, so engineers should expect occasional travel further afield where required.
When working away from the normal working area, travel, accommodation and reasonable associated expenses will be covered by the company.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, can identify a problem, determine the correct solution and complete the repair professionally.
If you are an experienced electrician with a strong background in PPM, electrical maintenance, remedial works and fault finding, and are comfortable working across London, the South East and occasionally nationwide, we would like to hear from you.
