Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Shift Team Leader to assist in overseeing daily operations within a fast paced coldstorage environment.
To support the Shift Operations Manager in providing effective operational leadership on shift, co-ordinating the activities of all operatives to ensure all tasks are completed accurately, safely, and on time. The Team Leader acts as the on-the-floor first point of contact for operatives and provides the link between the shop floor and the Shift Operations Manager.
On-Floor Leadership & Coordination
- Support the Shift Operations Manager in the day-to-day management and coordination of the shift, providing hands-on operational leadership.
- Co-ordinate the activities of all operatives, ensuring tasks are allocated, understood, and completed accurately and on time.
- Follow and lead by example with regard to all processes relevant to the work area; undertake the role of operative when operationally necessary.
- Assist the Shift Operations Manager with the deployment of operatives within resource parameters to increase efficiencies whilst meeting customer requirements.
- Motivate and support operatives on shift; act as the first point of escalation for operative queries and issues.
Operations
- Co-ordinate the unloading and storing of deliveries, including handballing of containers or product as required.
- Co-ordinate the correct picking, loading, and despatching of orders.
- Ensure that extra work is not undertaken on loads without an agreement for additional charges.
- Be a super-user for the site handheld scanner system.
- Ensure appropriate and timely liaison between the shop floor, the administration office, and transport providers.
- Carry out duties in such a way as to protect the integrity of products within the care of the Company.
- Liaise with the administration function and transport providers; take corrective actions within the store as necessary.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Raise awareness of, and ensure compliance with, all H&S, legal, quality, and safety standards during the undertaking of duties.
- Operate all types of equipment, machinery, and MHE on site within personal training capabilities and company authorisation.
- Ensure the correct and proper use of all equipment, machinery, and MHE by all operatives within remit.
- Using the non-conformance procedure, report and, where required, assist in taking ownership of any damages or defects to property or work equipment.
- Be responsible for the overall cleanliness of the store; ensure that regular hygiene duties are practised.
- Take a key role in implementing, maintaining, and co-ordinating food safety and quality procedures on shift, ensuring the site meets its legal obligations in respect of H&S, food safety, quality, and operations.
- Monitor and adhere to document control across the Company in respect of all quality-related documents.
- Attend HACCP, H&S, and operational review meetings as required.
- Understand, adhere to, and actively promote the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and Health and Safety (H&S) systems.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and training requirements.
People & Development
- Monitor training requirements within remit, including H&S, food safety/HACCP, Company practices and procedures; communicate requirements to the Shift Operations Manager.
- Support back-to-work interviews and the management of performance and attendance on shift, escalating matters to the Shift Operations Manager as appropriate.
- Be responsible for personal development; identify training requirements and communicate them to the Shift Operations Manager.
- Provide information to facilitate the documentation of procedures and practices and attend meetings as appropriate.
- Undertake any additional duties as reasonably directed by the Shift Operations Manager or site management team.
