Patient Services Advisor
30 hours per week
Monday to Friday (including 2 late finishes to 6:30pm and one half day)
Permanent contract (6 month probation)
Salary: Starts at £12.71
Based at a busy GP practice in North Manchester
About the role
This is not a quiet desk job. You will be the first point of contact for patients calling the practice. The role is fast-paced, high volume, and requires you to stay calm, focused, and professional at all times. We are looking for someone who can handle back-to-back calls, deal with a wide range of patient needs, and move confidently from one call to the next without carrying things over. You do not need previous experience in primary care or the NHS. We will train you fully. What matters to us is your attitude, your reliability, and how you handle pressure.
What the job involves
- Answering a high volume of incoming calls throughout the day
- Supporting patients with appointments, queries, and signposting
- Managing difficult conversations and complaints professionally
- Working as part of a team to keep call queues safe and manageable
- Monitoring live call data on screen and responding to demand in real time
- Staying focused and consistent even during busy periods
What we are looking for
We are looking for people who can show:
- A strong CV track record of staying in roles (reliability matters to us)
- Experience dealing with customers or the public
- Confidence handling complaints or challenging conversations
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and keep going
- Experience working in fast-paced environments
- Good basic IT skills
If you have worked in retail, call centres, hospitality, or any busy customer-facing role, those skills transfer well here. Why this role works
We know this job can look daunting from the outside. What we offer is:
- A structured and well-established training programme
- Clear support from experienced managers and team leads
- A team that works together during busy periods
- A role where you will build strong, transferable skills
Everything can be taught. We will train you properly. What we cannot teach is reliability, attitude, and the ability to stay steady under pressure — that’s what we’re looking for. Important information
- Full time role with set shift pattern. 1 or 2 late finishes (18.30). 08.30 starts
- Subject to satisfactory DBS check and references
- Immediate start available
Final note If you are someone who takes pride in doing a job properly, shows up, and stays committed, this role will suit you. If you are looking for something quiet or slow-paced, this is not the right role.
