Burleigh House Day Nursery is looking for warm, enthusiastic and dependable individuals to join our nursery bank team.
As a member of our bank staff, you will provide flexible cover during staff absences, holidays and busy periods. You will support our permanent team in providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which babies and young children can learn, develop and thrive.
A recognised Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification is desirable but not essential. We also welcome applicants who have meaningful experience of caring for or working with children. This may include professional, voluntary or personal experience, including raising or regularly caring for children.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the supervision and care of children throughout the nursery day.
- Assisting with play, meals, rest, personal care and daily transitions.
- Building warm and positive relationships with children and colleagues.
- Joining in with age-appropriate play, learning and creative activities.
- Following room routines, activity plans and instructions from qualified nursery staff.
- Encouraging children’s confidence, independence and positive behaviour.
- Recognising children’s individual needs and sharing relevant information with permanent staff.
- Supporting children with additional learning needs where appropriate.
- Following safeguarding, health and safety, hygiene, allergy and accident-reporting procedures.
- Helping to maintain clean, safe and stimulating indoor and outdoor environments.
- Promoting Welsh language and culture through everyday nursery experiences.
- Working flexibly across different rooms and age groups according to the nursery’s needs.
Bank staff will be assigned duties appropriate to their qualifications, experience and demonstrated competence. Unqualified bank staff will work under the direction and supervision of suitably qualified permanent staff and will be deployed in accordance with required staffing ratios and qualification requirements.
Essential requirements
Applicants must:
- Have relevant experience of working with, volunteering with or caring for children.
- Have a genuine passion for supporting babies and young children.
- Be warm, patient, caring and attentive.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
- Be reliable, professional and able to follow nursery policies and instructions.
- Communicate positively with children, families and colleagues.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Be flexible and able to adapt to different rooms, age groups and routines.
- Be available to work at short notice when reasonably possible.
- Be willing to complete the nursery’s induction and any required training.
- Be able to obtain a satisfactory enhanced DBS check and provide suitable references.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- A recognised Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification appropriate for practice in Wales.
- Previous paid or voluntary experience in a nursery, school or other childcare setting.
- A current paediatric first-aid certificate.
- Current safeguarding, food hygiene or additional-learning-needs training.
- Experience caring for babies and children across different age groups.
- Confidence using incidental Welsh with children.
Applicants without current paediatric first-aid or safeguarding training must be willing to complete any training required for the role.
