Live-in Personal Assistant – Medical/Science Graduate Preferred
Supporting a Medical Science University Student
£200 per day / £1,400 per week worked | 7 days on / 7 days off

We are recruiting two Live-in Personal Assistants (PAs) to support a friendly, bubbly and ambitious young woman as she begins studying Medical Science at the University of Worcester.
This is a varied role combining university life, sport, socialising, travel and personal support. For a suitably qualified candidate, there may also be the opportunity to undertake additional paid academic support, separately arranged alongside the PA role.
You'll be helping our client get the most from university life while continuing to pursue her sporting ambitions as a classified British shot-put athlete.
No previous care experience is required – full bespoke training in our client's particular requirements will be provided.
The essentials
Location: Gloucestershire (GL10) and University of Worcester
Start: ASAP
Rota: 7 days on / 7 days off – Live-in
PA Pay: £200 per day / £1,400 per week worked
Holiday: 5.6 weeks pro rata
Driving: Clean UK automatic driving licence essential
Training: Full bespoke training provided
Support: On-call support from the AskJules Client Coordinator team
About our client
Our client is a first-year Medical Science student who has cerebral palsy and a visual impairment affecting her peripheral vision. She uses a wheelchair but also walks daily with assistance and is keen to maintain as much independence as possible.
Sport is a huge part of her life. She is a classified British shot-put athlete, training regularly with Cheltenham Harriers Athletic Club and the British Wheelchair Athletics Association. She also enjoys swimming, going to the gym, reading, music, cinema trips, bowling, eating out and socialising.
She is looking forward to making friends, enjoying university life and taking advantage of all the opportunities that come with being a student.
She describes herself as bubbly, ambitious and having a good sense of humour. She is looking for PAs who will enjoy being part of her busy and active lifestyle while understanding when to step in and when to encourage her independence.

“I have chosen to study Medical Science as it is a big passion of mine. Sport is one of my hobbies and I am a classified British athlete in shot-put and enjoy going swimming and to the gym on a weekly basis.
I enjoy going out and socialising, going for meals, bowling and going to the cinema, so having PAs who are not only prepared to support me socially but actually look forward to it is really important.
I am a very bubbly person and have a good sense of humour. I love to live life to the full and like my days to be full.
It is really important to me that my personal care is carried out thoroughly and respectfully and that my PAs help me maintain my independence.”
What you'll be doing
No two days are likely to be exactly the same. Your PA role will include:
- Supporting with personal care and daily routines
- Assisting with morning exercises, massage and fitting AFOs – full training provided
- Supporting independence at university and at home
- Supporting our client to access and participate in university life and her Medical Science course
- Providing appropriate day-to-day support with studying, organisation and preparation in her university accommodation
- Driving between her home in Gloucestershire and the University of Worcester
- Accompanying her to university activities and social events as required
- Supporting swimming, gym sessions, athletics training and competitions
- Going along to meals out, cinema trips, bowling and other social activities
- Attending appointments, including speech and language therapy and sports massage
- Helping with housekeeping and everyday domestic tasks
- Using specialist equipment following full training
- Encouraging independence and providing support in a respectful and person-centred way
University and Academic Support
Our client is unable to write independently and her ability to type using a laptop or keyboard is limited and slow. She will therefore require a significant level of practical and academic support to access her Medical Science course and complete her studies.
As her PA, you will provide the day-to-day practical support associated with her disability, helping her to access university and supporting her with appropriate studying and organisation within her university accommodation.
Our client is also expected to require more formal academic support, which may include:
- Scribing and note-taking during lectures
- Supporting her to accurately record written information
- Practical assistance during laboratory sessions
- Scribing and academic assistance during independent study
- Using IT to help her access and record course material
If the successful PA has the appropriate qualifications and meets the relevant requirements, there may be an opportunity for them to undertake some or all of this academic support as an additional paid role.
About you
Personality, reliability and the right attitude are extremely important. However, because of the nature of our client's course and the academic support she is likely to require, we are particularly interested in hearing from medical, biomedical, healthcare and science graduates.
Ideally, you will:
- Be a medical, biomedical, healthcare or science graduate, or have relevant higher-education experience – highly desirable but not essential
- Have strong written English and accurate note-taking skills
- Have good IT and keyboard skills
- Be comfortable with scientific and medical terminology
- Be confident in a university environment, including lectures, practical sessions and laboratories
- Be able to listen, process information and accurately record what is being communicated
- Understand the importance of facilitating our client's participation and independence rather than completing academic work on her behalf
- Be friendly, sociable and approachable
- Be caring, patient and respectful
- Be reliable and responsible
- Be organised with good time-management skills
- Be confident using your own initiative while also being able to follow instructions
- Be flexible, adaptable, motivated and enthusiastic
- Be comfortable supporting an active and sociable lifestyle
- Be happy to learn therapy routines and how to use specialist equipment
You must hold a clean UK automatic driving licence and be a confident driver.

For a suitably qualified candidate, there may also be the opportunity to undertake additional paid academic support alongside the PA role, subject to the appropriate requirements and funding arrangements.
The 7 days on / 7 days off rota also gives you significant time away from work between each working week.
No previous care experience is necessary. What matters most is that you are intelligent, reliable, respectful, enthusiastic and genuinely interested in helping our client make the most of her independence and university experience.
