About the Company
We're a fast-growing business with a busy warehouse and operational team. We're now around 40 people and heading towards 50–60+ — including office, field, and manual warehouse staff — and we need a resilient, experienced HR Officer to bring order to our HR, support our people, and put the foundations in place for the next stage of growth.
About the Role
This is a genuine opportunity to make HR your own. As a growing business, we're ready to invest in our people and processes — and we're looking for someone to take the lead, shape how HR works here, and grow it with us. The mission is simple: build strong HR foundations and keep them running smoothly as we scale.
You'll own our contracts, documentation, and records, become the trusted point of contact for staff and managers, and handle the day-to-day people matters that come with a growing team — absence, performance, and wider staff concerns. It's a hands-on, people-facing role in a practical environment with a mix of office and warehouse-based staff, so you'll spend time out on the floor getting to know the team, not just behind a desk. You'll also work closely with management on workplace improvements and better ways of working.
It's a role with real ownership and visible impact. You'll have the autonomy to put your stamp on HR, build processes that last, and grow alongside the business — with full management support behind you.
What You'll Do
Bring Order to HR
- Review, tidy, and tighten HR processes, records, and documentation across the business
- Draft, issue, and track employment contracts and any changes to terms
- Own documentation control — version control, accurate GDPR-compliant staff files, and up-to-date, legally compliant templates
- Build simple, repeatable HR systems that scale as the team grows
Employee Relations & Day-to-Day HR
- Be the first point of contact for staff questions, concerns, and people issues
- Support and advise managers on absence, lateness, conduct, and performance
- Prepare and issue formal correspondence, including warning letters for lateness and absence, following a fair and consistent process
- Provide HR support in meetings (investigations, return-to-work, disciplinaries) and keep clear records
- Handle issues early, fairly, and in line with UK employment law
Working with Management
- Liaise with management on workplace improvements and better ways of working
- Support performance monitoring, SOPs, training plans, and CPD programmes
- Provide simple HR reports (headcount, absence, turnover) to inform decisions
- Help review, write, and improve company policies and the staff handbook
Culture, Morale & Engagement
- Help build and protect a positive workplace culture as we grow
- Spot issues affecting morale early and help put things right
- Organise team activities and staff engagement initiatives
- Support retention by making sure staff feel heard and supported
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage recruitment when roles come up — advertising, screening CVs, first-stage interviews
- Coordinate interviews and deliver a smooth onboarding experience for new starters
- Check payroll inputs (timesheets, absences, holiday) ahead of each run
Policy & Compliance
- Uphold and help enforce the company handbook and health & safety policies
- Keep policies current and aligned with employment law as the business scales
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years' experience in an HR role (HR Officer, HR Generalist, or similar)
- Confident handling a high volume of employee relations — absence, lateness, conduct, and disciplinaries
- Experience supporting a manual, operational, or warehouse/blue-collar workforce is a strong advantage
- A track record of improving or setting up HR processes and documentation
- Experience drafting contracts and managing HR records
- Solid working knowledge of UK employment law and best practice
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Resilient, level-headed, and comfortable being out on the floor and dealing with issues face to face
- Approachable but firm — able to build trust while holding a fair, consistent line
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership in a fast-paced, practical environment
- CIPD Level 3 or 5 (or working towards) is a plus
- A full UK driving licence is a plus (Harlow-based, in-person role)
This role will suit someone who:
- Likes walking into a bit of a mess and making it run properly
- Is calm, fair, and confident handling difficult conversations day in, day out
- Is happy in a hands-on, practical environment around warehouse and operational staff — not just an office
- Enjoys both the people side and the process side of HR
- Wants ownership of HR and the chance to grow with a scaling business
- Is looking for a long-term, in-person role in Harlow
