What you can add:
- The postholder is responsible for supporting the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people with a drive for early intervention, enabling cultural change in the way first contact services can support children and young people with mental health problems. In line with 2019 NHS longterm strategic vision for CAMHS the post holder will actively promote resilience, prevention and early intervention to children and young people in the community.
The post holder will work as the named school liaison worker for an identified group of secondary’s school within the locality The Early Help Liaison Practitioner will link with children and young people where there is concern about emerging mental health issues or behaviors.
The post holder will offer assessments of young people to the network or directly to the child, young person and their family. The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of further assessment, targeted intervention or group that would meet the needs of the child or young person.
To deliver advice and information to children and young people who may present with emerging mental health difficulties. Co-ordination and implementation of evidence based targeted interventions in a timely manner, in collaboration with the other clinicians in the community team. To co-ordinate and contribute to the community assessment clinics to ensure that children and young people access timely assessments and the appropriate targeted interventions. Organisation and delivery of group based, needs let groups within the school and community setting. To support the delivery of evidence-based parenting programmes for children and young people with mental health issues.
Take a lead in representing CAMHS in multi-agency meetings such as SEND meetings or child protection meetings to co-ordinate and have oversight of mental health element of a multi-agency plan around a child. To function as a member of the locality facing CAMHS Early Help Team taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team.
Ensure planned interventions are implemented effectively and evaluated using Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROMS). Participate in the delivery of training programmes for schools and community services from a portfolio of available CAMHS training
Maintain standards of care to highest level within available resources. To actively participate in line management with senior and junior members of staff. To liaise effectively with the other CAMHS community teams across the city.
To develop and maintain relationships with providers statutory and non-statutory. To maintain confidentiality in respect of the young people at all times. Communicate clearly with children and young people, their families and all other health professional groups about their health problems. Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, e.g. clinical audit, essence of care or clinical policy development.
Ensure that children and young people are encouraged to play a part in decision making about the help they need and how they can access specific interventions. This is to promote person-centred planning.
Knowledge, Training and Experience:
- The post holder will be responsible for updating their own practice, knowledge and skills within their sphere of practice including Livewell Southwest mandatory training.
- Knowledge of Policy and legislation.
- Knowledge of Mental Health and Mental Health service delivery.
- Excellent knowledge of the principles of the CYP IAPT programme and a willingness to undertake training.
Analytical and Judgmental Skills:
- Expert ability in receiving information, analysing and formulating professional judgments.
- The post holder will provide assessment and other interventions in the setting most appropriate to meet the children and young people’s needs.
- Ability to match children and young people’s need with available skills and resources.
Planning and Organisational Skills:
- To the a lead role in the co-ordination of allocation of work with the available skill mix utilising, prioritising, negotiation and delegation skill for the identified schools in the locality.
- Liaise with other services to arrange appointments that both meet the needs of child or young person and service demands.
Physical Skills:
- Confidence to travel in an urban environment
- Competent key board skills
- Ability to take accurate physical observations i.e. blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
Responsibilities:
- Take a lead in community assessments. Formulate plans for appropriate interventions or to sign post to relevant services.
- Making appropriate agreed referrals for longer-term treatment.
- Take a lead role in clinical decision-making and collaborating with other team members in the provision of children and young people’s care packages.
- Ensure the on-going effective use of routine outcome monitoring in line with CYP IAPT.
- Take a lead role in the identification of risk and the formulation of risk management plans within the identified schools..
- Provide education to children, young people and their families to enhance their knowledge therefore improving longer-term concordance.
- Promote resilience and prevention of mental health issues.
- Maintain high standards of clinical care to children, young people and their families.
- To liaise and work with other CAMHS teams to ensure the needs of children and met by the right team, on the right pathway at the right time.
Responsibility for Policy and Service Development
- Expected to contribute to the development of the CAMHS community team policies including the formulation of protocols.
- Implement all appropriate National, Livewell Southwest and Local Home Treatment policies and protocols.
Responsibilities for Human Resources:
- Provide clinical supervision and line management supervision for junior members of staff.
- Have the ability to challenge staff where the standard falls below expectations.
- Assist in education programmes provided for junior staff.
- Provide mentorship for students both formally and informally.
- Participate regularly in recruitment and selection of staff.
- The post holder will behave in a manner that does not bring the Team or Livewell Southwest into disrepute.
Responsibility for Information Resources:
- Responsible for System1 contacts and monitor the standard of work of junior staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely paper and electronic records. Ensure they are kept safely in accordance with Livewell Southwest policy.
Responsibility for Research and Development:
- Provide a positive role in clinical audit and service evaluation to ensure high levels of clinical effectiveness.
Freedom to Act:
- The post holder will be individually accountable for their practice in accordance with the NMC professional Code of Conduct or HCPC.
- The post holder will actively participate in line management supervision with the Team Manager of the Team.
- Provide line management for junior staff.
- The post holder will actively participate in clinical supervision in accordance with Livewell Southwest policy.
- The post holder will actively participate in the Livewell Southwest appraisal system and provide appraisals for junior staff.
- The post holder will carry out other duties commensurate with the position as required.
Mental Effort:
Accurate manual and electronic record keeping whilst coping with constant interruptions and distraction in the work place for example: telephone calls and questions from colleagues.
- Constantly deal with sensitive, intricate and complex clinical and service decisions whilst frequently being required to change from one activity to another at a third party request, i.e. Telephone or staff interruption and be able to respond in a positive and constructive manner to emergency situations.
- Managing to extract information from people with communication difficulties due to acute distressing mental health problems, often in noisy or busy environments.
Physical Effort:
- Ability to navigate around large hospital sites, which may involve using stairs.
- Home visits to multi-occupied buildings, some without lifts.
- Frequent driving to different areas of the city.
- Sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time.
- May be a necessity to assist in the moving and handling of patients.
Emotional Effort:
- Ability to deal with children and young people with emerging mental health difficulties.
- People who self-harm.
- People who are presenting in distress or with distressing thoughts and behaviors.
- People who are very difficult to engage within a therapeutic relationship.
- Ability to cope with stress generated from the constant changing priorities within the Team.
