We’re a small, independent family run cafe looking for an experienced Sous Chef to become an important part of our team.
Our food is essentially brunch done really well. We work with fresh ingredients and serve high quality breakfasts and brunch dishes; Eggs bene’s, pancakes and classics, all made and presented with care using local suppliers.
For us, though, this role is about more than being a good cook.
We’re looking for someone with solid experience working in , and helping to run a busy kitchen.
You’ll take responsibility for the kitchen two weekdays each week when our Head Chef is off, as well as providing holiday cover and supporting the kitchen over the weekends.
That means you’ll need to be confident leading a service, keeping standards high and making good decisions when the Head Chef isn’t there.
A big focus for us is consistency. We want every plate leaving the kitchen to be as good as the last, while keeping service running smoothly and hitting expected ticket times.
Good communication is just as important. If something happens that might delay a table or disrupt service, we expect clear, proactive communication with the foh team so that everyone knows what’s happening and can look after our customers properly.
You’ll need to:
- Have previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or in a role where you’ve been responsible for running a kitchen/service
- Be confident taking charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
- Have strong standards around food quality, presentation and consistency
- Be organised and able to keep a calm head during a busy service
- Understand the importance of service times
- Communicate really well with both kitchen and foh colleagues
- Enjoy working with fresh food and take pride in what you send out
- Be reliable, supportive and happy to muck in as part of a small team
And, genuinely, you need to be a nice person.
We’ve worked hard to build a team of kind, understanding and supportive people, and protecting that culture matters enormously to us. We don’t have a kitchen v foh mentality. We’re one team with one goal, to give our customers great food and a great experience!
We want someone who shares that approach, who can lead without ego, communicate respectfully and contribute to making this a genuinely good place to work.
We are open 9-5 , so this isn’t a position built around late nights. Very occasionally we hold an event that may fall outside our normal hours, but these are few and far between.
If you’re an experienced chef who enjoys making great food, likes being part of a close knit team and wants a role where you can have real responsibility and make a difference :)
