It is much more than a café; it is a place where people can enjoy friendship, find support and experience practical expressions of God's love. The Centre also provides catering for conferences, training events and meetings held within our facilities.
We are looking for a warm, organised and enthusiastic Catering Supervisor to join our team and help us deliver excellent hospitality, food and customer care to everyone who walks through our doors.

Responsible To - Deputy Church Operations Manager
Salary - £12.71 per hour
Hours - 22.5 hours per week
· Normally worked over three days per week
· Flexibility is required to meet operational needs and provide cover for holidays or sickness
· Occasional additional hours may be available for conference catering
· This post is a 44-week position taking into account café closure times
· Salary will be paid monthly on a pro rata basis over twelve monthly payments
Contract - Permanent, subject to successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
Pension - Eligible for the NEST Pension Scheme.
Holiday Entitlement - Holiday entitlement is pro rata to a full-time equivalent of 30 days per year including bank holidays. However, holidays will be taken when the coffee shop is closed during certain periods of the year including Summer half-term, August, and Christmas/New Year days.
Additional flexibility may be available during the Easter school holiday by agreement.
Reasonable flexibility is available to swap working days to accommodate important appointments or commitments.
Purpose of the Role
· This role forms part of a two-person Catering Supervisor team responsible for the day-to-day operation of catering services at Wells Place Centre.
· Working closely with colleagues, volunteers and the Deputy Church Operations Manager, you will help ensure that all food preparation, café operations and catering services are delivered to a consistently high standard.
· The role combines practical catering responsibilities with volunteer support, hospitality, customer service and operational oversight.
· The post holder is expected to work independently on shift, making day-to-day operational decisions while referring significant issues to the Deputy Church Operations Manager.
As a member of the Wells Place Centre team, you will play an important role in helping Eastleigh Baptist Church demonstrate Christ's love through welcome, generosity, hospitality and service.
Main Shared Responsibilities
The role is shared with another Catering Supervisor, with both post holders working collaboratively to ensure continuity of service and providing cover for one another when appropriate.
You will:
· Serve in the kitchen and Coffee Shop as required.
· Ensure the qualify, consistency and presentation of all catering for the coffee shop and conferencing.
· Recruit, train, supervise and encourage volunteers.
· Use the catering booking system effectively.
· Monitor and respond to the catering email account.
· Work collaboratively and communicate well with colleagues across Wells Place Centre.
· Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Deputy Church Operations Manager.
Specific Responsibilities for this Post
In liaison with the Deputy Church Operations Manager, this role will take the lead in the following areas:
1. Food Preparation and Baking
· Prepare and present high-quality food for café service and function catering.
· Bake cakes, traybakes and other products for café and events.
· Help maintain a varied and attractive range of products.
· Contribute ideas for seasonal menus and special promotions.
· Support the continued development of the catering offer.
2. Purchasing and Stock Control
· Order catering supplies and consumables including online shopping.
· Ensure all purchases represent good value for money.
· Maintain effective stock control procedures and reorder supplies as required.
· Carry out regular stock checks and stock takes.
· Minimise waste through careful planning and management.
· Ensure the stock room remains organised, tidy and efficient.
· Manage deliveries, check invoices/receipts are clearly coded and authorised and pass to finance team.
· Recommend pricing that balances affordability and sustainability.
3. Operational Supervision
· Assist with the preparation of staff and volunteer rotas.
· Ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations.
· Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout catering areas.
· Promote safe working practices at all times.
· Monitor the condition of catering equipment.
· Report maintenance and repair requirements promptly.
· Undertake cashing-up procedures.
· Maintain accurate financial records relating to daily takings.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential Requirements:
· Experience working within a catering, café or hospitality environment.
· Experience preparing food to a consistently high standard.
· Ability to bake products suitable for café sale.
· Good organisational skills and ability to supervise, support and encourage volunteers.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
· Ability to use initiative and manage competing priorities.
· Understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
· Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
· IT Skills – confidence using email/online ordering systems/booking systems/Microsoft word/basic Microsoft excel/WhatsApp
Desirable Requirements:
· Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
· Experience of stock management and purchasing.
· Experience of supervising staff or volunteers.
· Understanding of the mission and values of Eastleigh Baptist Church.
