About the Role
Recruitment Unlimited is recruiting for Full-Time Street Cleansing Operatives to join the Public & Green Spaces Cleansing team in Exeter.
This is a fantastic opportunity for reliable and hardworking individuals looking for full-time temporary work in an active outdoor role. You will help keep Exeter city centre, streets, public spaces, car parks and facilities clean, safe and looking their best.
The role is varied, with full training provided across different areas of the cleansing service.
Key Responsibilities
- Removing litter and emptying public litter bins.
- Carrying out street cleansing and public realm cleaning.
- Removing small amounts of graffiti and fly-posting.
- Trimming and removing minor weed growth.
- Cleaning public toilets and car parks.
- Carrying out basic condition checks and reporting maintenance issues.
- Identifying additional work required by specialist teams, including grass and hedge cutting, mechanical sweeping, tree work, large-scale graffiti removal, hot washing and deep cleaning.
- Reporting fly tipping, damaged street furniture, damaged signs, abandoned vehicles and other issues affecting the public realm.
- Completing basic records, including timesheets and daily work sheets.
- Working safely and following all relevant health & safety procedures.
- Using cleansing equipment safely following training.
- Working independently or as part of a team depending on the area and task.
- Providing a professional service to members of the public.
- Working flexibly across different shifts and service areas when required.
Full Training Provided
Please note: Shift start times will vary depending on the duties and service area you are assigned to.
Hours & Shifts
- Full-time hours
- Working 3–5 days out of 7, depending on operational requirements
- Weekend availability is preferred, with candidates ideally able to work at least one weekend day
- Start times between 05:00 and 07:00
- Finish times between 13:00 and 18:00
Requirements
You must have:
- A full, clean UK manual driving licence – essential
- A reliable and flexible approach to work
- The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good physical fitness for an active, manual role
- Good communication skills
- A strong awareness of health and safety
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to undertake training
- Good attendance and timekeeping
Previous experience in street cleansing, environmental services, waste management, grounds maintenance, facilities cleaning, public realm, highways, local authority services or manual labour is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.
