Main Responsibilities of the Chair
The Chair of Carers Resource holds a pivotal leadership role within the organisation, ensuring robust governance and strategic direction. The Chair's responsibilities centre around maintaining the charity's legal compliance and operational effectiveness, as well as upholding its core values and purpose.
- Ensuring the organisation has all necessary policies, systems, and procedures in place to operate legally and effectively.
- Guiding the board to make decisions that reflect the values and purpose of the charity.
- Leading the board in significant decisions, including those related to financial strategy and future planning.
Working with Trustees
Collaboration with the board of trustees is a central aspect of the Chair's role. The Chair is responsible for facilitating effective board meetings and fostering the development and cohesion of the board.
- Chairing board meetings, ensuring they are properly minuted, and that actions are communicated, followed up, and monitored.
- Making certain the board is fully equipped to fulfil its duties, including access to learning, development, information, or support as required.
- Reviewing the composition of the board and overseeing recruitment and development to maintain an effective governance team.
- Building a team that encourages co-operative working and positive relationships among board members.
- Managing the board to guarantee probity and transparency in all activities.
Working with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
The Chair also works closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, providing support and oversight to ensure strong organisational leadership.
- Developing and maintaining a productive and supportive relationship with the CEO and SLT.
- Conducting the annual appraisal of the CEO.
- Collaborating with the CEO to plan board meetings and ensure the provision of timely and focused information to inform decision-making.
- Being available to support the CEO on urgent or key issues as they arise.
- To act as a sounding board for the CEO on matters of development and planning
External Representation
In addition to internal responsibilities, the Chair acts as an ambassador for Carers Resource, working with key stakeholders and representing the organisation externally as required.
