Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is seeking a highly motivated science graduate to join our GLP analytical team as an Extraction Chemist in Bedford. This is a full-time, permanent role supporting regulated studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice.
You will be responsible for the preparation and extraction of crop samples, including oranges, wheat and beans, alongside environmental matrices such as soil and water. The role involves receiving, recording, labelling, storing and tracking study samples, using large commercial laboratory equipment and working to defined quality, safety and compliance procedures.
This opportunity is ideal for someone seeking an entry-level role in an analytical laboratory and looking to build practical experience in a fast-paced, quality-focused scientific environment.
Your Impact in this Position
You will support the accurate and timely delivery of regulated analytical studies by preparing samples, conducting extraction procedures and maintaining high-quality laboratory records. Your work will directly support analysts, study directors and quality assurance personnel in producing reliable data for client studies.

Core Capabilities
Sample Preparation and Extraction
- Prepare crop and environmental samples and conduct extraction procedures using techniques such as Solid Phase Extraction and Liquid-Liquid Extraction.
GLP Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice requirements and study procedures.
Laboratory Equipment and Reagents
- Operate, calibrate and perform basic maintenance of laboratory equipment, and prepare reagents, standard solutions and quality control samples.
Quality, Safety and Compliance
- Follow company health, safety and quality procedures while supporting regulated study delivery.
Team Collaboration and Communication
- Work effectively with analysts, study directors and quality assurance colleagues, communicating clearly and contributing to a supportive team environment.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
You will hold a BSc degree, or equivalent, in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline. Strong attention to detail, good organisational skills and excellent written and verbal communication are essential.
Experience working in a laboratory environment, knowledge of sample extraction and preparation techniques, and an understanding of Good Laboratory Practice would be desirable.
Work Patterns and Location
This is a full-time, permanent role based at Tetra Tech’s Bedford laboratory working Monday – Friday 9:00 – 17:00.
