About CVS Vehicle Group
CVS Vehicle Group is an established independent vehicle hire and maintenance services business serving customers across Burnley and the wider Northwest via our Burnley Van Hire & CVS Garage brands. Our rental operation supports both business and consumer customers, combining responsive service with reliable vehicles and disciplined operational control.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Rental Operations Manager to take end-to-end ownership of our vehicle rental operation. You will lead a small team of typically two to three colleagues across rental activity, valeting and vehicle logistics, while remaining visible and involved in the daily operation.
This is not a desk-only management role. You will support enquiries, bookings, handovers and returns when required, but your wider responsibility is to make sure the whole operation performs consistently: people are clear on priorities, vehicles are ready, customers are well served, risks are controlled and problems are followed through to a conclusion.
You will have the authority and autonomy to make day-to-day decisions within company policy and will work directly with the Managing Director to improve standards, systems and commercial performance.
What you will be responsible for
- Team leadership: Lead, organise and develop the rental, valeting and logistics team; set daily priorities, manage coverage and hold colleagues accountable for service, accuracy and productivity.
- Enquiries and reservations: Own the process from initial telephone, email, web or walk-in enquiry through quotation, follow-up, booking, amendment, extension or cancellation.
- Customer experience: Make sure customers receive accurate information, proactive communication and a professional service throughout the hire; resolve complaints and service failures promptly.
- Fleet readiness and logistics: Maintain a clear view of vehicle availability and status, coordinate preparation and movements, resolve booking conflicts and ensure vehicles are ready at the promised time.
- Handover and return: Ensure driver, payment, insurance, safety and condition checks are completed correctly and that every vehicle return is processed promptly and consistently.
- Damage, VOR and insurance: Take ownership of damage cases, vehicle-off-road visibility, accident or insurance notifications, recovery activity and the actions needed to return vehicles to service.
- Compliance and risk: Oversee rental files, driver eligibility, roadworthiness, servicing, MOT, tyres, safety recalls, keys, documents, fines and operational health and safety.
- Commercial performance: Monitor demand, conversion, utilisation, rate performance, revenue protection, downtime and customer outcomes; identify issues and implement practical improvements.
What we are looking for
- Proven operational experience in vehicle rental or hire, fleet mobility, or a closely related asset environment. Current or recent daily-rental experience would be a strong advantage.
- Experience directly leading a small operational team and improving individual and team performance.
- Practical understanding of the end-to-end rental journey, including reservations, fleet allocation, preparation, handover, return, damage, VOR and customer issue resolution.
- The confidence to make sound decisions, organise competing priorities and remain calm in a fast-moving customer-facing operation.
- Commercial awareness and experience using KPIs or management information to improve service, utilisation, revenue protection and cost control.
- Clear, professional communication and the ability to deal constructively with customers, colleagues, suppliers, workshops, insurers and breakdown providers.
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to drive a range of cars and light commercial vehicles, subject to company insurance requirements.
It would also be useful if you have
- Knowledge of BVRLA standards, pre-rental checks, fair wear and tear, insurer requirements or vehicle compliance controls.
- Experience serving both business and consumer rental customers.
- A track record of improving booking, fleet-planning, logistics, damage or vehicle-return processes.
Why this role is different
This opportunity offers genuine ownership of the rental operation rather than responsibility for only one part of it. You will be trusted to lead from the front, shape how the team works and build repeatable processes that support continued growth. It will suit someone who enjoys the pace of vehicle rental but also wants the authority to improve the operation, not simply react to it.
Package
Whilst a salary range has been advertised the package will be attractive, competitive and negotiable, dependent on experience.

If you are an experienced vehicle-rental or fleet operator ready to take broader ownership of people, customers, vehicles and performance, we would like to hear from you. Please apply with your CV and a short explanation of the experience you would bring to the role.
