The Centre for Media Monitoring (CfMM) is an independent research and advocacy organisation established in 2018 to improve the quality and accuracy of media reporting on Muslims and Islam. Through evidence-based research, media monitoring, stakeholder engagement and public engagement, CfMM works to promote fair, responsible journalism and contribute to more informed public discourse.

Job Summary
The Centre for Media Monitoring is seeking an analytical, news-driven individual with a strong understanding of the British media landscape and an interest in how Islam and Muslims are represented across news and current affairs.
Working closely with the Media Monitoring Analyst, the successful candidate will strengthen CfMM's media monitoring, research and analytical capabilities. This role is suited to someone passionate about journalism, politics and media accountability who can identify trends, produce evidence-based insights and contribute to meaningful engagement with the media sector.
The post-holder should also have a strong understanding of social media platforms, particularly X, where journalists, politicians and commentators frequently discuss news coverage and public affairs.
Key Responsibilities
Media Monitoring & Analysis
- Support the Media Monitoring Analyst in monitoring and analysing print, online and broadcast media coverage relating to Islam and Muslims in the UK and internationally.
- Identify inaccurate, misleading or problematic reporting and assess potential breaches of media regulations and editorial standards.
- Prepare evidence and draft complaints to media organisations and regulatory bodies where appropriate.
- Maintain an organised archive of media coverage for research, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor media trends and identify emerging narratives relating to Muslims and Islam.
- Escalate significant or time-sensitive issues where appropriate.
Research & Reporting
- Conduct research for rapid-response briefings, insight papers and longer-term research projects.
- Assist with drafting, editing and publishing reports, blogs and research outputs.
- Produce weekly media monitoring updates covering key developments relating to Islam and Muslims.
- Support the creation of social media content, newsletters and audience-facing communications, including the responsible use of AI tools where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities for future research and contribute ideas for reports, submissions and campaigns.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
- Prepare evidence-based briefings, presentations and supporting materials.
- Support meetings with media organisations, regulators, policymakers, academics and community stakeholders.
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with external partners.
- Contribute to the organisation's public profile through research, commentary and engagement activities.
- Represent CfMM at events, workshops, report launches and public engagements where required.
Digital Content & Knowledge Management
- Assist with maintaining and updating the CfMM website.
- Ensure reports, submissions, corrections and research outputs are published and archived appropriately.
- Support the development of Media Briefings examining coverage of major issues affecting public discourse on Muslims and Islam.
- Contribute to the development of best-practice guidance for journalists, editors and stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong interest in media coverage of Muslims and Islam and an understanding of developments in British media reporting over the past decade.
- Experience in journalism, media research, policy research, think tanks, advocacy organisations or related fields.
- Knowledge of the UK media landscape and the role of traditional and digital media in shaping public discourse.
- Familiarity with:

- Ofcom Broadcasting Code
- BBC Editorial Guidelines and Style Guide
- IMPRESS Standards Code
- Strong research, analytical and writing skills.
- The ability to communicate complex research clearly through reports, briefings, articles and presentations.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Criteria
- Experience using media monitoring, analytics or social listening tools.
- Knowledge of social media management and audience engagement.
- Experience with WordPress.
- Design and content creation skills using Canva or similar platforms.
- Understanding of research methodologies, including corpus linguistics and content analysis.
- Experience writing and publishing research reports.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted research and content production tools.
