About the Role
As Chef, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality meals that meet the nutritional needs, preferences, and dietary requirements of our residents. You will work closely with the Home Manager and care team to ensure that every dining experience is enjoyable, safe, and tailored to individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present fresh, nutritious meals and snacks to a high standard.
- Plan and develop varied seasonal menus that reflect resident preferences and dietary requirements.
- Cater for specialist diets, including diabetic, vegetarian, vegan, texture-modified, allergen-free, and culturally specific meals.
- Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and infection control.
- Manage food ordering, stock control, and kitchen budgets efficiently.
- Minimise food waste while ensuring excellent meal quality and presentation.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety regulations, HACCP procedures, and company policies.
- Supervise and support kitchen assistants and other catering staff where required.
- Maintain accurate records relating to food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and allergen management.
- Engage positively with residents, families, and colleagues to create a welcoming dining experience.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Previous experience as a Chef, Cook, or Catering Professional.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen management.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A genuine passion for providing high-quality food and service.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a care home, healthcare, or hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of nutritional requirements for older people.
- Relevant catering qualifications (NVQ Level 2/3 Professional Cookery or equivalent).
- Experience catering for specialist dietary needs.
