Broadcast Technical Operator (Playout / Live News) – Arabic-speaking | Freelance
Job Overview
We are seeking an Arabic-speaking Broadcast Technical Operator with a primary focus on playout and live news output to support our Arabic-language broadcasting operations.
This role is suited to someone technically confident, calm under pressure, and comfortable working in a fast-paced live news environment. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate, seamless transmission while collaborating closely with producers and the gallery team.
Primary focus is playout, with opportunities to support wider broadcast operations depending on skills and experience.
Responsibilities
- Execute live playout and scheduled content with precision and strong attention to timing.
- Monitor outgoing feeds to ensure uninterrupted transmission and quickly escalate or resolve issues.
- Follow rundowns and adapt rapidly to breaking news changes.
- Coordinate with producers, journalists, and technical teams to maintain smooth output.
- Prepare playlists and verify media readiness ahead of transmission.
- Maintain accurate broadcast logs and support compliance procedures.
Depending on skills, you may also:
- Assist with basic video edits for news clips.
- Support digital publishing or clip distribution.
- Contribute to graphics workflows when required.
- Provide language support by reviewing or translating content between Arabic and English when appropriate.
Skills & Experience
- Fluent Arabic (spoken and written) – essential.
- Good working proficiency in English.
- Experience in live broadcast, playout, MCR, or gallery environments.
- Strong understanding of broadcast workflows and on-air timing.
- Ability to remain composed and decisive during live output.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Experience with playout or newsroom systems (e.g. Avid, iNews, Maestro, Viz, Ross, EVS, or similar).
- Familiarity with Adobe Premiere or basic video editing.
- Exposure to news or current affairs broadcasting.
- Understanding of digital or social clip workflows.
