Contract: Core Crew / Permanent

Location: Offshore, North Sea
Main responsibilities
Operate pedestal and gantry cranes within the company, client and OEM parameters. Perform planned preventative maintenance, inspection and servicing routines, inclusive of all pedestal, gantry cranes and flexible hose inspections with support from the technical deck crew, and such other equipment as may be agreed between client and Company in accordance with client planned preventative maintenance routines and manufacturers manuals/service charts.
The Crane Operator Mechanic (COME) will be responsible for the management, coordination and performance of the pedestal & gantry cranes at site. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:-
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform repair work as identified by preventative maintenance routines, inspection activities and crane operator reports on pedestal and gantry cranes as recorded on CMMS.
- Ensure planned maintenance programme is carried out as planned by onshore support teams, ensuring resources are highlighted and secured via the technical deck crew as required. Ensuring that all maintenance work is completed during allocated time and prior to Latest Allowable Finish Date (LAFD)
- Ensure all CMMS data is completed in accordance with client requirements for input into the maintenance recording system.
- Responsible for carrying out timely breakdown repairs to ensure crane breakdown is kept to within contract targets.
- Maintain cranes in a clean, tidy and, where applicable, watertight condition, including cabs, machinery housings and external surfaces. External and internal paintwork should be retained in a corrosion free condition.
- Liaise daily with the onshore team to advise on status of on-going work, highlighting any possible challenges.
- Preparation of cranes as required by client for inspection or survey by certifying authorities or third party ensuring the validity of all relevant certification.
- Daily reporting will be in the form of a written log detailing work carried out, spares ordered and consumed, general condition status etc.
- Responsible highlighting, specifications of and follow through for ordering, receipt, storage and use of all crane related spares and equipment in accordance with the requirements of the contract and the Sparrows Quality Management System. The Offshore Daily Report Form should include an accurate list of consumed spares.
- Responsible for liaising with site Materials Controller for the supply of materials and spares, ensuring that urgent items are obtained promptly and distributed to the installation.
Crane Operations:
- Responsibility for competently operating platform pedestal cranes under the direction of nominated platform personnel and in accordance with the authorised operator’s instruction manual, platform operating procedures, Company QA System, Standing Instructions SI-01 and other relevant documentation.
- Operate cranes within their maximum permitted rating and in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and platform operating procedures at all times. Crane Operations shall only be carried out with a Banksman in attendance.
- On receipt of an instruction to carry out an operation which, in the opinion of the Operator, will cause the crane to be operated in excess of its maximum permitted rating or in contravention of good cranage or engineering practice, the Operator shall STOP the job immediately and explain his objections to the Representative.
- The incumbent shall have an understanding of and adherence to LOLER (S12307) Regulations and the client’s scheme of compliance (Lifting Plans, TRIC, Risk Assessment, etc.)
Secondary Responsibilities:
The Crane Operator Mechanic (COME) also has responsibility to fulfil the role of Helideck Landing Officer (HLO) at client site, including but not limited to, the following:-
- Helideck Offshore Initial Training
- Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader
- Helicopter Refuelling
HSEQ responsibilities
- It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
- The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.
Qualifications and experience
- BOSIET/ FOET
- MIST
- Working at Height
- NVQ L3 Engineering Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Stage 3 Crane Operator (all lifts unsupervised)
- VHF / CAA / Radio Operator Certificate of Competence
Desirable or willing to work towards:
- Helideck Offshore Initial Training (HOIT)
- Helideck Emergency Response Team Member / Leader
- Helicopter Refuelling
