Planning Assistant
Location: Bridgeway House, Nottingham
Department: Access Services – NW&C – West Coast South Route
Contract: 12 month fixed term
About the Role
We're looking for an organised and motivated Planning Assistant to join our growing Access Services team at Bridgeway.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced environment and wants to build a career within the rail industry. You'll play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of safe and efficient railway works, helping to ensure projects are prepared, coordinated and delivered to the highest standards.
Working closely with our Delivery Manager and planning team, you'll gain hands on experience across a variety of operational activities while developing your knowledge of railway planning and safety processes.

Key Responsibilities
Planning & Operational Support
- Support the Delivery Manager with the day to day planning and coordination of operational activities.
- Assist with preparing Safe Work Packs and ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.
- Help coordinate site visit preparation and planning activities.
- Monitor and maintain Safe Work Pack registers and returns.
- React to daily operational changes alongside Network Rail stakeholders.
Scheduling & Administration
- Assist with staff rostering to ensure shifts are appropriately covered.
- Update weekly staff timesheets and maintain the Bridgeway roster.
- Keep planning records and documentation accurate and up to date.
- Support the team with general planning administration.
Learning & Development
- Develop an understanding of railway geography across the routes you support.
- Undertake safety critical duties and training to gain a full understanding of the planning process.
- Work alongside experienced colleagues to build your operational knowledge and planning skills.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy operational environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Hold PTS, IWA and PS competencies (or be willing to obtain these competences).
- Willingness to undertake Safe Work Planner training.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when required to support operational delivery.
