About the Role
Adult social care is about helping people maintain as much independence, choice, and control over their daily lives as possible.
As an Adult Social Care Worker, you will support adults who may need assistance because of age, disability, illness, reduced mobility, or changing personal circumstances. You will provide practical day-to-day support, help individuals follow agreed care plans, monitor changes in wellbeing, and communicate important information to colleagues and other professionals.
The role is varied and highly practical. One part of the day may involve helping someone prepare for an appointment or manage their daily routine, while another may focus on supporting community activities, updating care records, or reporting a change that requires additional professional attention.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred support to adults according to agreed care and support plans.
- Assist individuals with daily living activities while encouraging independence wherever possible.
- Support people with personal routines in a respectful and dignified manner.
- Help individuals attend appointments, activities, and community services.
- Encourage participation in social and recreational activities.
- Support meal preparation and basic household routines where required.
- Observe changes in physical, emotional, or social wellbeing.
- Record important observations and report concerns to the appropriate colleague.
- Maintain accurate care notes and daily support records.
- Follow medication-support procedures within appropriate training and responsibility levels.
- Support individuals with mobility and safe movement where required.
- Build professional and respectful relationships with service users.
- Communicate with families, carers, healthcare professionals, and support teams when appropriate.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly.
- Assist individuals in developing or maintaining everyday living skills.
- Support adults during periods of transition or changes in their care needs.
- Follow confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
- Participate in care reviews and provide relevant observations when required.
- Follow infection-control, health and safety, and safe-working procedures.
- Help maintain a supportive and respectful environment for everyone receiving care.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience in adult social care, community care, residential care, supported living, healthcare support, or a related role is beneficial.
- A caring and respectful approach when supporting adults with different needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Good observational skills and confidence reporting changes in wellbeing.
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential care records.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities involving vulnerable adults.
- Flexibility to support different individuals and changing care needs.
- Relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care would be advantageous.
- Willingness to complete required care and safeguarding training.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary support team.
- A driving licence may be beneficial for community-based positions.
