The role of the Shift Engineer provides an effective maintenance service to ensure that all machinery, plant, equipment, site structures, car parks, utilities and landscapes are, at all times, in good working order and of a high standard of repair. You will support production by resolving breakdowns and delivering planned maintenance. You will also drive improvement across the site in terms of machinery, hygiene, quality, and performance.
Responsibilities:
To provide an efficient, cost effective and profitable manufacturing service in the Process factory
To ensure organised and planned production, which consistently provides finished product of the required quality and volume to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
To ensure all operating systems are in accordance with HACCP, the Food Safety Act and all customers' specifications.
To ensure that all operating systems are in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant internal procedures.
To effectively control all production labour costs, to plan for all human resource requirements and changes, to monitor labour turnover and absence levels and ensure adequate levels of skill and numbers to meet production requirements.
To effectively control all plant and equipment, its maintenance and repair to ensure availability to meet production requirements at all times.
To monitor and analyse productivity, waste and yield figures, establish KPIs and manage the business to budget requirements, and to seek efficiencies to improve on budgeted targets.
To direct, manage and train all Shift Managers, monitoring, developing and improving their individual and their factory's overall performance.
To ensure that all employment practices are carried out in accordance with relevant employment legislation and internal procedures.
In conjunction with the development team seek to improve the quality, scope and profitability of the product portfolio by identifying and investigating alternative production techniques, procedures, machinery, equipment and packaging use.
To ensure effective and regular communication with Directors, Senior Managers and Subordinates.
To establish and maintain effective communication links with the non-production service departments and ensure that all areas of the business are up to date with all production issues.
To deal professionally with customers, visitors, staff, colleagues and suppliers.
To treat all data and information relevant to EPC in the strictest confidence.
To carry out ad hoc duties as requested.
Responsible for validating weekly plans and sign offs.
People Management
Responsible for performance of team
Responsible for ensuring that all staff within production area are adequately trained for their jobs including SSOW, core skills, and refresher training ensuring appropriate training records are completed.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with EPC / HR policies within production area including Return to works, 1-2-1s, annual appraisals, disciplinaries and investigations.
Responsible for raising and maintaining standards of timekeeping, attendance and staff breaks.
Responsible for ensuring effective communication to all staff within the area, through daily team briefs.
In conjunction with the Shift Managers, ensure that labour is managed in line with production plans, audit days and holidays are effectively scheduled to minimise disruption and over usage of agency staff.
Ensure the team is trained and competent to complete the duties required on shift - set out training and development plans highlighting gaps.
