Overview
A specialist SEND provision in Halifax is recruiting an Neurodiversity Support Practitioner to join their multidisciplinary team from September. The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism spectrum condition, social communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, emotional regulation challenges and complex learning needs.
Working closely with educational staff, therapists and families, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils develop the skills required to access education, build positive relationships and achieve greater independence.
This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with autism to access learning activities across the curriculum.
- Implement individual support plans, behaviour strategies and EHCP outcomes throughout the school day.
- Provide structured support to develop communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills.
- Adapt learning activities and classroom environments to meet individual sensory and learning needs.
- Use visual supports, structured routines, social stories and communication systems where appropriate.
- Facilitate positive engagement during lessons, transitions, social situations and enrichment activities.
- Support pupils to develop independence, resilience and self-confidence.
- Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets and outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
- Promote pupil wellbeing, inclusion and active participation in all aspects of school life.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with autism spectrum condition.
- Understanding of SEND, autism and sensory processing differences.
- Knowledge of autism-specific strategies and communication approaches desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patient, supportive and highly organised approach.
- Experience within education, childcare, support work or SEND settings beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Child Development, Health and Social Care or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£115.00 per day
