External Wall Insulation (EWI) Remediation SurveyorRole Overview
We are seeking experienced EWI Remediation Surveyors to undertake detailed property inspections on homes where External Wall Insulation (EWI) has been installed and there are concerns that the system may have been incorrectly designed, specified or installed.
The successful candidate will assess the condition and installation of the EWI system, identify defects and potential non-compliance, gather photographic and technical evidence, and produce clear survey reports detailing the issues identified and recommended remedial action.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed property surveys of homes with existing EWI installations.
- Assess the overall condition, quality and workmanship of the installed EWI system.
- Identify visible defects, poor workmanship and potential installation failures.
- Inspect areas including:
- EWI boards and insulation coverage
- Render and finish coats
- Base coats and reinforcement mesh where visible
- Beading and corner details
- Window and door reveals
- Sills, lintels and thresholds
- Roofline and eaves interfaces
- DPC and ground-level detailing
- Downpipes, vents, cables and other penetrations
- Expansion and movement joints
- Junctions with adjoining properties and existing building elements
- Identify signs of cracking, delamination, impact damage, water ingress, staining, movement or detachment.
- Assess whether detailing appears appropriate for the property and installation.
- Identify potential thermal bridging and areas where insulation may be incomplete or incorrectly detailed.
- Record evidence of poor workmanship or installation defects through detailed photographs and notes.
- Where appropriate, undertake non-destructive investigation and measurements.
- Review available installation records, specifications, certificates and previous survey information.
- Determine the likely severity and significance of identified defects.
- Provide recommendations for further investigation or remedial works where required.
- Complete accurate digital survey forms and reports within agreed timescales.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners and explain the purpose and findings of the inspection.
Survey Reporting
Surveyors will be expected to produce clear and comprehensive reports containing:
- Property and installation details
- EWI system information, where available
- Areas inspected
- Condition assessment
- Detailed defect identification
- Photographic evidence
- Measurements and observations
- Potential causes of defects
- Assessment of severity/risk
- Recommended further investigation
- Recommended remedial action where appropriate
Reports must be factual, evidence-based and clearly distinguish between observed defects, suspected defects and areas requiring further investigation.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience in property surveying, building surveying, EWI, retrofit or construction.
- Good understanding of residential construction and building fabric.
- Experience identifying building defects and poor workmanship.
- Ability to recognise common EWI installation and detailing issues.
- Strong photographic and written reporting skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple property inspections.
- Professional communication skills when dealing with residents.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA)
- Retrofit Assessor
- Retrofit Coordinator experience
- Building Surveying qualification
- Construction-related qualification
- EWI installation experience
- Experience with PAS 2035 / PAS 2030
- Experience with government-funded retrofit or EWI schemes
- Experience undertaking defect, quality assurance or remediation surveys

Key Objective
The primary objective of the role is to provide an independent, accurate and evidence-based assessment of existing EWI installations, identifying defective or potentially defective workmanship and providing sufficient information to enable appropriate further investigation and remediation.
Pay: £200.00-£300.00 per day
