An inclusive and community-focused Primary School in Haringey is looking to appoint a Behaviour & Pastoral Primary School Mentor from September. This is a full-time, short-term temporary opportunity with no fixed end date and the possibility of becoming permanent for the right individual.
Working alongside the school's pastoral and leadership teams, you will provide tailored support to pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional or attendance challenges, helping them feel safe, engaged and ready to learn.
The Role – Behaviour & Pastoral Primary School Mentor
This varied role will see you working across the school to promote positive behaviour, encourage emotional wellbeing and support pupils whose personal circumstances may be impacting their education.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering one-to-one and small group pastoral interventions
- Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Encouraging positive behaviour through restorative and relationship-based approaches
- Helping improve attendance by working closely with pupils and families
- Monitoring vulnerable pupils and providing daily emotional check-ins
- Supporting behaviour during lessons, playtimes and lunchtimes
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, safeguarding leads and external agencies
- Keeping accurate records relating to behaviour, attendance and pupil welfare
- Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment throughout the school
The Ideal Candidate – Behaviour & Pastoral Primary School Mentor
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs
- Understands safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities
- Has previous experience within a Primary School, alternative provision or similar setting
- Can confidently build positive relationships with pupils, parents and professionals
- Remains calm, patient and solution-focused in challenging situations
- Has excellent communication and organisational skills
- Is proactive, resilient and passionate about improving outcomes for children
- Holds a relevant qualification in education, youth work, childcare, pastoral care or a related field (desirable)
