About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Logistics Manager to oversee the day-to-day movement of goods across the UK, Europe and international destinations.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and can confidently manage international transport operations from planning through to delivery.
You'll be responsible for coordinating drivers, managing warehouse logistics, overseeing customs and export documentation, maintaining fleet compliance, identifying new transport opportunities, and ensuring our clients receive exceptional service every step of the way.
Key Responsibilities
Transport & Route Planning
- Plan and coordinate daily and weekly transport operations across the UK and Europe.
- Produce and manage weekly driver schedules and rotas.
- Optimise routes to maximise efficiency while meeting delivery deadlines.
- Coordinate international road, sea and air freight movements.
- Arrange ferry bookings, flights, accommodation and travel logistics for drivers.
Fleet Management
- Oversee vehicle servicing, MOTs, inspections, maintenance and compliance.
- Ensure all fleet documentation remains accurate and up to date.
- Monitor vehicle availability and minimise downtime.
Warehouse Operations
- Work closely with the warehouse team to ensure orders are packed accurately and dispatched on time.
- Ensure products are labelled, stored and loaded correctly.
- Maintain cold-chain integrity for chilled and frozen products throughout storage and transport.
Customs & International Shipping
- Prepare commercial invoices and export documentation.
- Coordinate Goods Inspections and customs clearance.
- Liaise with customs agents, freight forwarders and border authorities.
- Ensure compliance with UK, EU and international transport regulations.
Freight & Supplier Management
- Arrange international air freight and courier shipments.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, freight partners and transport providers.
- Maintain freight schedules, pricing and operational records.
Driver Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for drivers while on the road.
- Provide operational support and resolve transport issues as they arise.
- Offer out-of-hours assistance when operationally required.
Business Development & Fleet Utilisation
- Maximise fleet utilisation throughout the year, ensuring company vehicles remain commercially productive during quieter operational periods.
- Identify and secure third-party transport opportunities, including courier work, dedicated transport contracts and return loads.
- Build relationships with freight forwarders, logistics companies and commercial partners to generate new business opportunities.
- Utilise freight exchange platforms, such as Shiply and similar services, to secure additional transport work and maximise vehicle utilisation.
Administration & Compliance
- Process driver expenses and operational paperwork.
- Maintain accurate logistics records and compliance documentation.
- Produce reports and operational updates for senior management.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with relevant legislation and company procedures.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Proven experience in logistics, transport or operations management.
- Experience coordinating international road freight.
- Strong understanding of UK and European transport operations.
- Experience with customs procedures and export documentation.
- A valid International CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) or equivalent Transport Manager qualification.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities under pressure.
- Confident communicator with experience managing multiple stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and excellent administrative skills.
- Proficiency with Apple Numbers.
Desirable
- Experience within food distribution or temperature-controlled logistics.
- Knowledge of UK, EU and international customs regulations.
- Experience coordinating air freight.
- Fleet management experience.
- Experience using transport management or warehouse management systems.
- French language skills.
