Our client is seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Field Service Engineer to join their growing service team and provide installation, maintenance, repair and technical support across their UK customer base.
This is a key role within the organisation, supporting a portfolio of innovative and fast-evolving medical imaging equipment, including Ultrasound, X-Ray and other OEM platforms. You will play an important part in ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently, while delivering an exceptional level of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Service & Maintenance
- Install, commission, service and maintain diagnostic imaging systems, including Ultrasound, X-Ray and other OEM equipment.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with manufacturer and company requirements.
- Respond to breakdowns and reactive service calls within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, mechanical and software-related faults efficiently.
- Minimise equipment downtime and disruption to customers and clinical services.
- Support new installations, equipment demonstrations and clinical evaluations where required.
Technical Support & Compliance
- Ensure all engineering and service activities are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, health and safety requirements and relevant medical device standards.
- Work in line with applicable regulations and standards, including MHRA requirements and IEC 60601.
- Maintain accurate service reports, engineering documentation, asset records and customer information using CRM and service management systems.
- Manage spare parts, including stock control, ordering, returns and associated documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of tools, test equipment and calibration certificates.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop strong professional relationships with Clinical Engineering teams, Radiographers, Imaging Managers and Procurement contacts.
- Provide customers with equipment guidance, technical support and first-line troubleshooting advice.
- Deliver on-site training and support to ensure customers can operate equipment safely and effectively.
- Represent the organisation professionally and provide a consistently high standard of customer service.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with Account Managers, Applications Specialists, Product Managers and the wider Service team.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers or OEM technical support where appropriate.
- Identify recurring technical issues and provide feedback to Product Management and relevant internal teams.
- Support the wider business during product launches, demonstrations, installations and clinical evaluations.
Territory & Resource Management
- Plan and manage your own diary and territory effectively to meet customer requirements and SLA targets.
- Maximise engineer utilisation while maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and test equipment in good working order.
- Ensure all relevant test and measurement equipment remains appropriately calibrated and within certification requirements.
- Be willing to travel extensively throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- An engineering qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical, electronic, mechanical and software systems.
- Full, valid UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the UK, including overnight stays when required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer-facing skills.
- A professional and customer-focused approach with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience servicing Ultrasound and/or X-Ray systems.
- Experience working with major medical equipment OEM platforms.
- Knowledge of DICOM, PACS and imaging IT networks.
- Understanding of NHS environments, procurement processes and service frameworks.
- Relevant health and safety training or certifications, such as electrical safety, manual handling or working at height.
- Experience working within a regulated medical device or healthcare environment.
Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
