Accounts Senior (Accountancy Practice) – Hybrid/ Remote
Salary: £30,000 to £36,000, depending on experience
Full time | Permanent | Hybrid/ Remote
We’re looking for an experienced Accounts Senior with recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice. This experience is essential.
About us
Cope & Associates is an established, fully digital UK accountancy practice headquartered in Cheshire.
We support UK limited companies and their directors with accounts, tax, VAT, bookkeeping and management information. We’re a growing firm with clear ambitions and a strong focus on consistently excellent work and a dependable client experience.
We’re building an accountancy practice where capable people are trusted to take responsibility, contribute ideas and develop into more senior roles as the firm grows.
The role
You’ll take responsibility for a substantial portfolio of limited company clients and a smaller portfolio of legacy sole trader clients, working alongside and reporting to the Accounts Manager.
You’ll prepare year end accounts, corporation tax returns, directors’ personal tax returns, VAT returns and management reports, and other compliance. You’ll communicate directly with clients, obtain outstanding information, resolve queries and progress each job through review to completion.
You’ll be responsible for knowing what’s due across your portfolio, what information is outstanding and what needs to happen next. You’ll receive support when needed, but you won’t require someone to allocate and monitor each individual task.
You’ll also follow our established procedures, maintain accurate internal records and contribute ideas that improve the quality, efficiency and consistency of our work.
About you
You’ll be AAT qualified, with recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice. You’ll have prepared limited company accounts and corporation tax returns and have experience managing, or helping to manage, a portfolio of practice clients.
You’ll be organised, accurate and confident communicating directly with clients. You’ll identify inconsistencies, follow up missing information and raise potential problems or delays at an early stage.
As this is a hybrid /remote position, it is essential that you’ll be self motivated and capable of managing competing deadlines without close supervision. Experience using Xero is also required.
You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. However, you’ll be expected to remain curious, take responsibility, respond positively to feedback and apply what you learn.
Applications based solely on internal finance, industry accounting, management accounting or bookkeeping experience won’t be progressed.
What success looks like
You’ll maintain clear oversight of your portfolio, complete work accurately and within agreed timescales, and keep clients and colleagues properly informed.
You’ll take responsibility for progressing work from the client records through to final completion. Missing information will be followed up, review points will be resolved promptly and potential problems will be raised while there’s still time to address them.
As you become familiar with our clients and processes, you’ll take responsibility for increasingly complex work and higher level client relationships.
Our values
Integrity
We do the right thing, communicate clearly and earn trust through our actions. We take responsibility for our work and give clients and colleagues clear, honest information based on the facts.
Improvement
We’re ambitious about what we can build and committed to becoming better along the way. We welcome feedback, share knowledge and continually improve our work, systems and client experience.
Autonomy
We give capable people the clarity, trust and systems they need to do their best work. Everyone owns their responsibilities, makes appropriate decisions and contributes to a firm that doesn’t depend on any one person.
Working remotely
This is a hybrid/remote position, with flexibility to organise your workload around our core working hours.
That flexibility comes with responsibility. You’ll need to be available for clients, meetings and team collaboration when required, while consistently meeting deadlines and maintaining our service standards.
Remote working suits someone who can create their own structure, remain focused and work independently while staying connected to the wider team. You’ll need a suitable home working environment and reliable internet connection.
Development and progression
AAT is the highest formal qualification required for this role, and we don’t currently offer funded study towards further professional qualifications.
However, this isn’t a role without progression. As the firm grows, there’ll be opportunities for the right person to manage increasingly complex client relationships, progress into management and potentially lead other members of the accounts team.
Qualifications are valuable, but progression with us is based on the quality of your work, the responsibility you can take on and the contribution you make to the firm. Increased responsibility and pay will reflect that development.
What we offer
The salary for this role is £30,000 to £36,000, depending on experience. You’ll work fully remotely and receive a company laptop and the equipment required for the role.
You’ll have autonomy over your workload within a supportive team, together with clear opportunities to progress into management and potentially lead other members of the accounts team as the firm grows.
