We are a small engineering company, working mainly in the automotive and rail industries.
We have an immediate vacancy for a welder/fabricator, possibly full time, but suitable part timers will be considered. You should be capable of high quality MIG and TIG welding of thin sheet mild and stainless steel and aluminium, 1 mm to 3 mm but sometimes up to 10 mm.
The job may sometimes involves working on vehicles, so vehicle fitting knowledge would be very useful.
The job is very varied - we have small batches from 1 generally up to about 20, everything from exhaust parts to handrails to hydraulic and water pipes. Actual arc time is a relatively low proportion of the total day - we are not into high volume.
It would be useful but not essential for applicants to have some formal welding qualifications - some of our customers require evidence of competence and experience.
We are looking for an honest, reliable, tidy and organised person with high standards, capable of working with little supervision. It is important that you can interact positively with the rest of the team, as we all depend on each other. We are quite a relaxed company, and you will have considerable freedom, provided that you don't abuse it.
Everyone is responsible for their own quality and output, following instructions, and possibly writing and recording instructions on new jobs. (We also as a seperate skill need someone with 3D CAD ability - this isn't a requirement for the welding / fabricating job, but if you have this skill it would be a very good reason for enhancing your hourly rate).
We are not served by public transport, so applicants must be able to travel here independently by car or bike.
We will expect you to do some welding samples at our premises if we invite you for interview.
Standard Hours: 15 to 37.5 per week, and overtime is generally available.
