About the role
Reporting to our Software Engineering Manager, the Technical Architect is responsible for defining and evolving the organisation's technology architecture, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with business objectives. The role provides technical leadership across the Technology team, guiding architectural decisions and supporting the delivery of high-quality technology solutions.
As a key member of a small and dynamic team, you’ll be responsible for:
- Defining and maintaining architectural direction for platforms, systems, and business domains.
- Leading the design of complex and business-critical technology solutions.
- Providing technical leadership and architectural guidance across the Technology team.
- Ensuring solutions meet requirements for scalability, security, resilience, performance, and maintainability.
- Evaluating technology options and support key technical decision-making.
- Promoting architectural standards, consistency, and best practices across the technology estate.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure technology supports organisational priorities.
- Managing key relationships with external technology suppliers.
- Mentoring and supporting members of the Technology team, sharing architectural knowledge and best practice.
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, reduce complexity, and manage technical risk.
About you
In terms of knowledge, skills and experience, we would expect you to have:
- Significant experience in software engineering, solution design, and systems architecture.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence decisions and build consensus across teams.

- Experience designing and delivering architecture within cloud-based environments.
- Knowledge of cloud architecture, system integration, and distributed systems design.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience defining integration patterns and secure technology solutions.
- Experience working collaboratively across Technology teams to deliver complex technical programmes and initiatives.
- Experience operating within regulated or security-conscious environments.
- Knowledge of non-functional requirements including scalability, security, resilience, performance, and observability.
It would also be beneficial if you have experience of:
- Experience with data architecture, analytics platforms, or data integration.
- Experience developing architectural standards and governance frameworks.
- Experience with platform engineering, DevOps, or developer experience initiatives.
