General role description
The Authorised Person is responsible for the safe implementation of OLE AC isolations and earthing arrangements in accordance with their competency, company procedures, Network Rail standards and authorised instructions.
Duties and responsibilities
Core responsibilities will include:
- Implement and manage OLE AC isolations in accordance with Network Rail standards, isolation instructions and company procedures.
- Apply, maintain and remove earthing equipment as required by the isolation plan.
- Verify that isolations and earthing arrangements are correctly established before permitting work to commence.
- Maintain accurate records of isolations, permits and associated documentation.
- Liaise with Nominated Persons, Engineering Supervisors, Controllers of Site Safety and other project stakeholders.
- Report any defects, irregularities or safety concerns relating to the OLE system immediately.
- Participate in planned and emergency isolation activities
- Responsible for ensuring that all works are carried out safely.
- Brief team on safety arrangements.
- Represent Skill Step Group externally to the industry.
- Provide support and direction for Earthing Assistant’s.
- Carry out all duties, subject to correct competency level, as per the business requirements.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- 3+ years Authorised Person experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Full UK Driving License
- Knowledge of Network Rail OLE isolation procedures.
- Experience working within safety-critical rail environments.
- Ability to interpret isolation diagrams and technical documentation.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make safety-critical decisions
Desirable
- Current (ES) Engineering Supervisor competence
Qualifications, Competencies and Training
- Current (AP SAI OLE /AC-i) Authorised Person (SAI) OLE AC Isolation competence
- Current (COSS) Controller of Site Safety competence
- Current (PTS AC) AC Lines and (PTS DCCR) Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail competencies
- Emergency First Aid with electrical incidents
