FIXED TERM OPPORTUNITY- 12 MONTHS MATERNITY COVER
Overall job purpose:
The Junior Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of the Product Development team and will work closely with the Research, Electronics, Product management and Test teams to ensure the core technology is designed and implemented correctly in new product developments and existing products.
They will support early-stage prototype testing to shape and validate designs. Support the Test team through product verification, analyzing data and interpreting results to aid design improvements. Support Product Management with packaging development from a mechanical aspect
Support the transfer of projects from Development to production, working with the production team from capturing early stage DFA requirements, DFA reviews to support production trials.
Work to develop new products with a methodical approach with a focus on the technical aspects using their understanding of design and engineering principles. Analyzing Technical issues and developing solutions that can be implemented into production.
Core responsibilities
Product/Mechanical design primarily using Solidworks (3D Solid & Surface modeling).
Creating 2D technical drawings, including tolerancing.
Ensuring that designs are suitable for mass production.
Utilizing 3D printing for concept development, usability trials, and functional testing.
Testing and verifying the function of prototype and pre-production parts.
Analyzing data and interpreting results to aid design improvements.
Generating and assisting in project documentation, including drawings, test reports, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFA (Design for Assembly), etc.
Providing production and part approval support as required.
Supporting Packaging and label development
Principle Responsibilities
Continuous improvement activities, including Engineering Change notices, play a crucial role in enhancing design processes and procedures. These activities aim to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce defects, and increase efficiency. Engineering Change notices allow for modifications to be made to existing designs based on feedback and evolving requirements.
Drawing Generation drawings are a critical part of the design process, ensuring that drawings and technical documentation meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. Junior Engineer will generate technical drawings to ensure part adherence to design specifications.
Designing and developing products through the product development process is a core responsibility of the Junior Engineer. They work with the design team, collaborating with cross-functional teams to transform concepts into functional and manufacturable products. This includes conducting concept ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration to achieve optimal design solutions.
DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) is a risk assessment tool used to identify and mitigate potential design failures and their impact on product performance. The junior Engineer conducts DFMEA analyses to proactively address risks and ensure robust design solutions. Developing risk assessments.
Technical investigations looking into issues raised on existing products, investigating issues to develop robust solutions that can be taken to production. Developing new solutions to technical issues of existing products for future projects such as cooling systems.
These tasks are not intended as an exhaustive list of the post holder's duties. The post holder is expected to carry out any reasonable request as deemed appropriate by their Line Manager to support business needs. Specific responsibilities and authorities are defined in procedures relevant to the role.
