We are working on behalf of a brilliant specialist school in Cheltenham seeking a dedicated part-time SEND Teacher to join its team from September.
The school supports pupils from KS1 through to KS5 with a broad range of special educational needs and disabilities. Rather than following a traditional curriculum in full, learning is highly personalised and shaped around each pupil’s individual needs, interests, abilities and aspirations.
The school takes a genuinely child-centred approach, recognising that progress looks different for every pupil. Alongside academic learning, there is a strong focus on communication, emotional development, independence, confidence and essential life skills. Pupils benefit from consistent routines, adapted teaching and high levels of individual support.
The Role
As an SEND Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, accessible learning that reflects pupils’ individual starting points and targets. You will adapt your teaching style, resources and expectations to ensure every pupil can participate, develop and experience success.
Responsibilities may include:
- Planning and delivering personalised, engaging lessons
- Adapting learning to meet a wide range of needs and abilities
- Supporting pupils’ academic, social, emotional and developmental progress
- Working towards individual outcomes outlined within pupils’ EHCPs
- Creating a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
- Using creative and practical approaches to encourage engagement
- Working closely with teaching assistants, therapists and wider support staff
- Monitoring progress and celebrating pupils’ individual achievements
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and life skills
The successful candidate will hold QTS and demonstrate a flexible, patient and nurturing approach. You will understand that effective teaching within a specialist setting may look very different from a traditional classroom and be confident responding to each child as an individual.
Previous experience within an SEND setting is highly desirable; however, applications are also welcomed from adaptable teachers with a genuine passion for personalised and inclusive education.
