Experience & Qualifications
- Experience independently performing and reporting diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A compassionate, patient-centred approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following:
- Women's Health Ultrasound
- Pelvic & Transvaginal Ultrasound
- Fertility Ultrasound & Follicle Tracking
- Early Pregnancy Ultrasound
- Dating, Reassurance, Growth & Wellbeing Pregnancy Scans
- Breast Ultrasound
- General Abdominal Ultrasound
- Liver & Gallbladder Ultrasound
- Kidney, Bladder & Urinary Tract Ultrasound
- Prostate Ultrasound
- Testicular Ultrasound
- Soft Tissue & Lump Assessment
- Hernia Ultrasound
- Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound
- Vascular Ultrasound including DVT, Arterial and Carotid Doppler
- Paediatric Ultrasound

The Role
As a Sonographer at Highway Health, you will play a key role in delivering outstanding diagnostic ultrasound services across our Ballymena and Derry clinics. You will provide high-quality imaging, accurate reporting and exceptional patient care while supporting the continued development of our growing service.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties
- Independently perform and report a range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations within your scope of practice.
- Produce accurate, timely and clinically appropriate ultrasound reports.
- Recognise and escalate urgent or unexpected findings in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Maintain high clinical standards and evidence-based practice at all times.
Patient Care
- Deliver an exceptional patient experience throughout every appointment.
- Communicate professionally, compassionately and clearly with patients.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- Ensure patients are informed and reassured throughout their examination.
Clinical Governance
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and imaging records.
- Comply with BMUS and Highway Health policies and procedures.
- Ensure ultrasound equipment is maintained and any faults are reported promptly.
Service Development
- Contribute ideas to improve patient pathways and clinic efficiency.
- Support the development of new ultrasound services.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain consistently high standards across both clinics.
- Contribute to maintaining Highway Health's reputation for outstanding patient care and clinical excellence.
Working Pattern
- 30 hours per week across 4 days.
- Working across both our Ballymena and Derry clinics.
- Flexibility to travel between both locations is essential.
- Additional working days may be available to provide cover for annual leave, sickness and increased clinic demand.
