Holden Knight Intervention (HKI) is seeking dedicated and passionate tutors/specialist mentors to join our SEND/SEMH intervention tutor community. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrable background delivering tuition & intervention to small groups and on a 1:1 basis. Experience supporting CYP with additional learning needs, alongside working within the principles of the SEN Code of Practice.
Our tutoring roles involve working closely with children, led by relational learning methods, developing trusted relationship, reducing barriers to learning, enhancing each CYP’s learning experience, increase in confidence and knowledge by providing tailored and inclusive support that meet the needs of each CYP.
Primary duties:
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions for learners from Year 1 to year 13 in core subjects and/or functional skills
- Develop lesson plans that are aligned to short term and long-term desired outcomes, identified at referral stage, considering the unique learning styles of each learner.
- Deliver tuition at a suitable pace and communication skills to engage the learner, helping to support critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate closely and effectively with stakeholders, tracking progress, addressing areas of weakness.
- Where appropriate, supporting learners with homework, exam preparation, and study techniques.
- Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment that prioritizes the learners’ individuality and encourages dialogue and interaction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress (via HK’s secure platform) and adapt teaching techniques as required.
- In addition to being child-centered, foster positive relationships with primary carer, attend PEP/EHCP reviews upon request.

Qualifications & Experience
- A teaching qualification, we encourage HLTA’s, TA’s Learning Mentors, Learning Support Mentors to apply, although some assignment requests will only accept QTS.
- An enhanced DBS on the update system (if required we can support you in obtaining this).
- Proven experience in tutoring or teaching with children, young people and young adults (equipping them to achieve academic, social and emotional development and success).
- Background in special educational settings, supporting learners with additional needs.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, can engage effectively with young learners.
- Patience, empathy and possess a genuine passion for supporting others to achieve their potential
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies based on individual student needs and learning preferences.
- Experience with effective communication with care stakeholders.
