Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cold Store Working Team Leader to oversee daily operations within our temperature-controlled warehouse environment. The post-holder will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of the cold store team while remaining actively hands-on within the operation. The role will involve regular container unloading, goods-in activity, stock movement, picking, loading and dispatch duties, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently. The role will act as the first point of contact for cold store operatives, supporting operational performance, stock accuracy, warehouse systems use and compliance with health, safety, hygiene and cold chain requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, organise and support cold store operatives during each shift, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and on time.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor progress across goods-in, put-away, picking, loading, dispatch, stock movements and general warehouse activity.
- Regularly unload containers safely and efficiently, including handling palletised and loose-loaded goods as required.
- Use warehouse systems effectively to maintain accurate stock records, traceability and operational visibility.
- Ensure all cold store procedures are followed, including temperature control, hygiene standards, food safety requirements and health and safety rules.
- Operate FLT and reach truck equipment safely and in line with site procedures, where required.
- Provide regular hands-on support across the cold store and warehouse operation, including container unloading, goods handling and backfilling operative roles when needed.
- Develop a strong understanding of all cold store roles and processes, including the manager/supervisor function, to provide cover during absence, holidays or operational peaks.
- Support training, coaching and communication with operatives to maintain performance and safe working practices.
- Identify and report stock discrepancies, damages, equipment issues, process concerns or safety risks promptly.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and compliance within the cold store and warehouse areas.
- Liaise with relevant departments to support efficient goods flow and effective daily operations.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working in a cold store, warehouse, logistics or similar fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong warehouse systems experience, with confidence using systems to manage stock, movements, picking, goods-in and dispatch activity.
- FLT and reach truck experience; a current licence is strongly preferred.
- Experience unloading containers and handling goods safely within a cold store or warehouse environment.
- Practical experience across all aspects of a cold store or warehouse operation, from hands-on floor activity through to system-based processes.
- Ability to lead, organise and motivate a team of operatives.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions and escalate issues appropriately.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and awareness of stock control requirements.
- Flexible, reliable and willing to work hands-on across different areas of the operation, including regular container unloading.
- Understanding of health and safety standards within a cold store or warehouse environment.
