Job Summary
The Finance & Payroll Officer is responsible for managing payroll processes and supporting the financial operations of the hospital. This role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, maintains financial records, supports budgeting activities, and ensures compliance with relevant healthcare, financial, and employment regulations. The position requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process monthly payroll for all employees.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including salaries, overtime, pensions, allowances, and deductions.
- Enter payroll figures onto ONS database
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, pension schemes, and employment legislation.
- Record sick pay, maternity pay, paternity pay, and holiday pay.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports and statutory returns as required.
- Resolve payroll queries promptly and professionally.
Financial Management
- Assist with day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable using Xero platform.
- Prepare and process invoices, payments, and expense claims.
- Reconcile bank accounts, payroll accounts, and general ledger transactions.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with hospital policies and accounting standards.
- Petty cash reconciliations
Compliance & Reporting
· Prepare reports for management/trustees regarding payroll costs, staffing expenses, and financial performance.
· Monitor and maintain the confidentiality of employee and financial data.
General Duties
- Collaborate with Human Resources on employee onboarding, salary changes, and terminations.
- Provide administrative support to the Trustees as required.
- Participate in training and professional development activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Experience in Finance, Accounting.
- Experience in payroll administration and finance/accounting functions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial/payroll software systems.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
- Working towards AAT qualification but not essential.
- Knowledge of healthcare funding and financial reporting requirements.

Working Conditions
- 2.5 days (Wed pm, Thurs 08:30 – 16:30, Fri 08:30-16:30)Office-based within the hospital environment.
- May be required to work additional hours during payroll processing periods, month-end, and year-end activities.
Salary
From £12.71 per hour, depending on age qualifications and experience.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
