A busy community pharmacy in Wembley is seeking a dedicated and friendly Full-Time PharmacyCounterAssistant/ Dispenser to join our professional and supportive team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about patient care and delivering high-quality pharmacy services in a fast-paced environment.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 6:30pm
Optional Saturdays: 9:00am – 6:00pm
The successful candidate will ideally hold at least an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (Dispensing) or be willing to work towards this qualification. Previous pharmacy experience is highly desirable. You should be organised, reliable, able to work efficiently under pressure, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
Working closely with the Pharmacist and wider pharmacy team, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions, maintaining efficient pharmacy operations, and supporting the delivery of enhanced healthcare services to the local community.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing Duties
- Accurately prepare and dispense NHS and private prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
- Generate prescription labels and manage dispensing records using pharmacy computer systems.
- Perform prescription assembly, accuracy checks where appropriate, and ensure all prescriptions comply with legal and professional requirements.
- Support the pharmacist in managing repeat prescriptions and prescription queries.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient medication records (PMR).
- Ensure correct storage, rotation, and stock control of medicines, including date checking and handling recalls.
- Receive, check, and store pharmaceutical deliveries in accordance with pharmacy procedures.
- Assist with monitored dosage systems (MDS) or blister pack preparation where required.
- Support the dispensing of controlled drugs in line with legal requirements and maintain controlled drug registers where appropriate.
Customer Service and Patient Support
- Provide a friendly and professional service to patients and customers both in person and over the telephone.
- Offer guidance on over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and refer patients to the pharmacist when necessary.
- Provide clear information to patients regarding the safe use of their medications.
- Assist in delivering pharmacy services such as flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, Pharmacy First consultations, contraception services, and other public health initiatives.
- Help maintain a welcoming, clean, and professional pharmacy environment.
- Cash Till Operation and Counter Stock management
Stock and Operational Duties
- Assist with ordering prescription medicines and pharmacy supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintain adequate stock levels and organise dispensary inventory efficiently.
- Process invoices, deliveries, and supplier orders when required.
- Ensure shelves, dispensary areas, and storage spaces remain organised and compliant with pharmacy standards.
- Assist with packaging and arranging prescription deliveries for patients.
Management and Supervisory Duties
- Support the pharmacist with the day-to-day running of the dispensary and lead the Dispensery team.
- Assist in supervising and guiding trainee dispensers or counter staff where appropriate.
- Help ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor workflow within the dispensary to maintain efficiency and patient safety.
- Assist in implementing service improvements and supporting the growth of pharmacy services.
- Contribute to team training, development, and maintaining a positive team environment.
Skills and Attributes
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Dispensing (or working towards it).
- Previous experience in a community pharmacy setting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small, hardworking team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
