Principal Engineer
Outside IR35 Contract | Fully Remote | Occasional UK Site Travel
About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Engineer to join an innovative engineering business delivering next-generation renewable energy and infrastructure solutions across the UK.
This is a rare opportunity to take technical ownership of a cutting-edge product at an early stage of its deployment. Rather than maintaining an established system, you'll play a key role in shaping engineering standards, supporting live projects and helping develop a scalable, repeatable platform for future growth.
Working across the full project lifecycle, you'll collaborate with delivery teams, contractors, suppliers and customers to ensure systems are designed, installed, commissioned and handed over to the highest technical and safety standards.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining engineering expertise with practical problem-solving and wants to make a genuine impact on the future of innovative energy technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering deployment projects.
- Review engineering designs, contractor proposals and technical submissions to ensure quality, safety and compliance.
- Support the development of robust system architecture across mechanical, electrical, controls and energy systems.
- Work closely with Delivery Managers to provide technical guidance throughout planning, installation, commissioning and customer handover.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning activities and final system acceptance.
- Investigate technical issues, identify root causes and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Review and manage technical change requests, ensuring risks and impacts are fully assessed.
- Support ongoing operational performance, planned maintenance, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate products, components and technical solutions.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to the development of engineering standards, technical documentation and best practice.
About You
You'll be an experienced Principal or Lead Engineer with a strong background in delivering complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
You'll be comfortable making technical decisions, supporting project delivery teams and working across mechanical, electrical and control systems to solve challenging engineering problems.
You'll enjoy working within a growing business where you'll have genuine influence over engineering standards, product development and future deployments.
