About the role
We are seeking a proactive, highly organised Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day running of the finance function.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with financial data, maintaining accurate records, supporting reporting processes, and ensuring finance administration is completed efficiently and accurately. The successful candidate will work across a broad range of finance activities and, over time, will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities as they develop within the role.
The position offers excellent exposure to different areas of finance and would suit someone looking to build a long-term career within a supportive finance team.
Key responsibilities
Finance Inbox Administration
- Monitor and manage the finance inbox
- Respond to queries promptly and escalate where appropriate
- Maintain and update finance records, trackers, and internal documents
Invoicing & Purchase Orders
- Raise and process sales and purchase invoices across accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Process purchase order requests and maintain supporting documentation
Banking & Reconciliations
- Download and process nominal ledger information and provider statements
- Support bank feed management and bank reconciliations
Credit Control & Financial Support
- Assist with credit control activities and customer account follow-up
- Support VAT administration and related record-keeping
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of bonus statements
Payroll Support
- Assist with the preparation and processing of monthly in-house payroll
- Ensure payroll data is accurate, complete, and up to date prior to submission
- Maintain payroll records and support payroll-related administration as required
Financial Reporting & Schedules
- Prepare and maintain financial documents and schedules
- Update and maintain scorecards and finance reporting trackers
- Assist with month-end finance processes and reporting activities
Team & Process Support
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and external providers as required
- Ensure financial records are accurate, organised, and up to date
- Support the continuous improvement of finance administration processes
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Strong organisational, administrative, and numerical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive and dependable approach to work
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or administration role
- A sound understanding of basic accounting principles
Desirable
- Familiarity with payroll administration processes
- Experience with invoicing, reconciliations, or credit control
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Experience using finance systems and accounting software, such as Xero
- Understanding of VAT processes and financial compliance requirements
- Previous experience supporting FCA reporting requirements
- Experience working collaboratively across departments
Training and support will be provided for the right candidate, including opportunities to develop finance knowledge and practical skills.
