The role of the Labourer / Driver is to primarily assist in basic workshop activities, which includes general housekeeping and yard operations. Other duties include assisting Stores in receiving goods or preparing and packing product for delivery as required. Forklift operation to move items around the site and general driving using Company vehicles to collect and deliver goods are also performed. The role also includes reporting on the operational stock level of regularly used items and components. The role requires the Labourer / Driver to work flexibly to meet operational requirements.
To this end, Labourer / Driver performs a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, working closely with stores, manufacturing departments, purchasing and design engineers.
The Labourer / Driver is willing to undertake further education and training to develop and further their competency levels.
1. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
All activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures and standards.
1.1. Labourer
· Housekeeping – Including emptying bins, general cleaning duties and keeping walkways clear
· Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the factory and yard areas.
· Ensure tools, equipment, and storage areas are kept tidy and secure.
· Assisting other employees with basic manual handling activities.
· Forklift truck driving within the yard and factory areas, moving materials, product and plant.
· Assist with loading and unloading deliveries.
· Assisting Stores with packing / shrink wrapping.
1.2. Company Driving
· Driving of Company vehicles to collect and deliver goods to customers, suppliers, and sites.
· Ensure deliveries and collections are completed safely and on time.
· Load and secure goods correctly for transportation.
· Complete delivery paperwork and vehicle check as required.
· Report any vehicle defects, damages, or issues promptly.
1.3. Goods Inwards (Stores)
· Assist in receiving goods and checking against purchase order.
· Ensure good levels of housekeeping are maintained and materials / equipment are correctly stored.
· Forklift operation.
· Assist in the training and instruction of apprentices and other work colleagues.
1.4. Goods Outwards (Dispatch)
· Assist in the packing of components / finished goods to correct specifications.
· Ensure correct labelling and loading of packaged goods.
· Ensure correct documentation is issued for transport of goods, including dangerous goods.
· Safe use of hand and power tools (saw, hammer, nail gun, etc).
· Forklift operation.
1.5. Other Duties
· Support annual stock checks and inventory organisation.
· General duties as delegated within the overall range of the post.
1.6. Health & Safety
· To comply with employee duties and responsibilities under health and safety legislation and comply with Company rules as detailed in various health and safety policies and procedures.
1.7. Driving
· This role requires driving on Company business.
2. JOB CONTEXT & KEY CHALLENGES
The job forms part of a team working in the Production HVAC Fabrication and Stores departments reporting to the Stores person and Operations Manager, carrying out a variety of tasks. The role also requires practical applications needing high levels of dexterity and strength in manipulation of goods, some of which may pose unknown hazards.
Key contacts are within the HVAC Fabrication, projects engineering and manufacturing departments up to Team Leader, Operations Manager and Projects Manager level. Contacts may also be with external clients or suppliers whilst working at their sites.
Key challenges include:
· Developing and maintain effective working relationships with key contacts
· Generating ideas for improved work procedures
· Performing work in context of overall department and project priorities.
3. RISKS
Errors by the post-holder in carrying out this role will have short-term implications that are very unlikely to have long-term consequences and are likely to be identified by others. These implications are unlikely to cause delays to projects or have financial, legal or regulatory consequences.
4. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE The job holder should normally hold as a minimum:
i. Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) Level 2 Qualifications in English and Maths
