The company
Paramount Logistics is a Leeds-based haulage operator running 10 vehicles on general haulage work across the UK. We're looking for an experienced planner to take the lead in our traffic office.
Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 17:00
The role
You'll own the daily plan for a fleet of 10 vehicles and 18 drivers — and you'll be the person the rest of the office looks to when it needs unpicking. Alongside running your own desk you'll guide other planners, hold the relationships with our key customers and subcontractors, and work with the Transport Manager on how we run the fleet, not just how we get through today.
What you'll be doing
- Owning the daily and forward plan: routing, load allocation and driver scheduling across the fleet
- Tracking the plan through the day and reworking it around traffic, breakdowns, late collections and everything else that doesn't go to plan
- Leading and developing a team of office staff, including workload allocation, training and holiday cover
- Acting as escalation point for service issues and customer complaints
- Keeping customers updated on ETAs before they have to chase — and handling it properly when something's gone wrong
- Sourcing return loads and managing subcontractor relationships, including rate negotiation
- Ensuring compliance with drivers' hours, working time rules and tachograph regulations
- Keeping the TMS and job records accurate, including PODs and delivery documentation
- Coordinating on loading, turnaround and vehicle availability
- Reporting on utilisation, empty running, on-time delivery and cost per mile, and acting on what the numbers show
- Supporting the Transport Manager and covering the desk during periods of absence
- Assisting in the yard in getting vehicles back on the road, when issues arise
What we're looking for
- Proven experience planning in a haulage or distribution traffic office, with a track record of running your own desk
- Experience mentoring, supervising or leading planners — formally or informally
- Strong working knowledge of drivers' hours, working time rules and tachograph compliance
- Confident negotiating with subcontractors and handling customer conversations when things go wrong
- Excellent geographical awareness of the UK trunk road network
- Comfortable getting the most out of a TMS and solid Excel and Outlook skills
- Able to hold several problems at once and deal with them in the right order
- Calm, decisive and unflappable when the plan comes apart at 3pm on a Friday
Pay: £42,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
