Sunflowers Nursery is a warm, welcoming, and child-centred setting dedicated to providing the very best care and experiences for children. We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and experienced Cook/Chef to join our team and help provide healthy, nutritious meals that support children's growth, wellbeing, and development.
This role offers flexibility, with hours to be discussed and the opportunity for a job share arrangement for suitable candidates.
The Role
As our Nursery Cook/Chef, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children attending the nursery, as well as providing food for our Out of School Club. You will play an important role in promoting healthy eating and ensuring that all meals are prepared to the highest standards of quality, safety, and hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0–5 years.
- Prepare food for children attending our Out of School Club.
- Cater for dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences.
- Create varied and appealing menus that meet current nutritional guidelines.
- Order food supplies and manage stock effectively.
- Maintain accurate records relating to food temperatures, allergens, and cleaning schedules.
- Ensure the kitchen is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Comply with all food safety, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures.
- Work collaboratively with nursery staff and communicate effectively regarding children's dietary needs.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Cook or Chef.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety regulations.
- Understanding of allergies and special dietary requirements.
- Ability to work independently and manage a busy kitchen environment.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum).
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working within a nursery, school, childcare, or similar setting.
- Food Hygiene Level 3 qualification.
- Knowledge of nutrition for young children.
- Experience with menu planning and stock management.
