Working pattern: 15 hours per week including weekends on a rota.
For almost 50 years, St Gemma’s Hospice has been supporting local people and families across Leeds with expert, compassionate care. As Yorkshire’s largest hospice charity, we rely on our amazing community to help make a real difference every day. Our Retail Team is at the heart of that community. With 27 vibrant shops across Leeds, we turn donated stock into vital funds that help us continue providing outstanding care. Join us and use your retail skills for something bigger. Whether you’re passionate about pre-loved fashion, customer service, merchandising or leading a team, every sale you make helps support local people when they need it most. Plus, you'll be part of a friendly, committed team that knows how to work hard, have fun, and make a difference.
Key duties:
-
Support and deputise for the Shop Manager in achieving agreed income and expenditure budgets through the efficient day to day running and development of a hospice charity shop with a team of paid staff and volunteers.
-
Ensure the shop operates in line with St Gemma’s standards and values, delivering excellent customer service while supporting a positive and welcoming environment for customers, donors, staff, and volunteers, and ensuring donated stock is received, sorted, and presented effectively to maximise sales and maintain high shop standards.
-
Help create an inspiring and engaging shopping experience through strong stock presentation, effective merchandising, and involvement in Gift Aid and fundraising activity. No two days are the same, and every day helps fund vital hospice care across Leeds.
What are we looking for in a candidate:
-
Previous experience in a customer facing environment (such as retail, hospitality or charity retail) is essential, with confidence to support shop operations, donated stock processing, merchandising, and customer service.
-
Experience of working in or supporting a team environment, with the ability to help supervise, motivate and guide staff and volunteers in a positive and approachable way when deputising.
-
Commercially aware and proactive, with the ability to support income generation through strong stock presentation, customer engagement, and Gift Aid promotion.
-
Confident working in a busy, hands on retail environment that is fast paced, varied, and people focused.
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent St Gemma’s Hospice professionally within the local community.
-
Charity retail or volunteer supervision experience is welcome but not essential – attitude, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn are key.
-
As this is a busy retail environment, the role will involve regular physical activity, including moving and handling stock.
