Overview
We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to support our welding crews, primarily carrying out lifting operations using an excavator as a crane. This role is focused on precision lifting, positioning and supporting welding activities on site.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of safe lifting practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with welders and site supervisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators primarily for lifting, placing and supporting loads in line with approved lift plans and site requirements.
- Work closely with welding crews to safely position pipes, fittings, structures and equipment for welding activities.
- Carry out lifting operations in accordance with LOLER, site-specific lift plans, and company safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with slinger/signallers, supervisors and welders to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.
- Conduct daily and pre‑use inspections of the excavator, lifting attachments and accessories, reporting defects immediately.
- Ensure all lifting activities are carried out within the machine’s rated capacity and manufacturer’s guidance.
- Maintain a safe working area at all times, stopping operations if conditions become unsafe.
- Complete relevant paperwork, including daily checks, lift records and defect reports as required.
- Support general site activities when required.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience operating excavators for lifting operations, ideally in support of welding, pipeline or heavy engineering works.
- Strong understanding of safe lifting practices, load charts and lift planning.
- CPCS or NPORS Excavator Operator qualification with lifting operations endorsement (essential).
- Experience working alongside welding crews or in similar safety‑critical environments is highly desirable.
- Good mechanical knowledge of excavators and lifting attachments.
- A strong safety‑first mindset with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
Pay: From £170.00 per day
