Soane Britain is proud to be reviving the endangered skill of rattan furniture making in a fast growing, friendly group of workshops in Thurmaston, Leicester. With an emphasis on training, development and workshop safety, we make high quality furniture and lighting in timber, cane and rattan
Due to continued demand, we are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Rattan Furniture Finisher to join our growing workshop team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly skilled group of craftspeople in a friendly, creative and fast-paced environment, with the potential to develop a long-term career within the business.
Purpose of the Position:
As a Rattan Furniture Finisher, you will play a key role in the final stages of production, ensuring that each piece meets Soane’s exacting standards of quality and finish. Working within our spray shop in Thurmaston, you will be responsible for preparing, staining and finishing rattan and cane-based furniture.
This role requires a high level of attention to detail, a strong understanding of finishing techniques, and a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship. You will work closely with the wider manufacturing and product teams to deliver both client commissions and new product development, contributing to the continued evolution of our finishes and techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare rattan surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and repairing minor imperfections
· Apply stains, dyes, and paint finishes evenly to cane materials
· Mix and match stain colours to meet design specifications
· Inspect finished products for consistency, colour accuracy to colour samples and defects
· Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition
· Follow health and safety guidelines
· Ability to perform minor repairs or touch-ups on rattan materials
· Working with the Product team on new finishes and techniques
Qualifications for the Position:
- Previous experience in furniture finishing, wood finishing, or similar spray shop environment
- Knowledge of staining techniques, finishes, and materials used on rattan or wood
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship
- Good understanding of colour mixing and finishing aesthetics
- Ability to work efficiently and meet production targets
- A proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to support the wider team
- Awareness of workplace safety practices
Working Hours: 8 AM to 5 PM Monday to Thursday, 8 AM to 1 PM on Friday
