Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Painter & Decorator to join our team on a subcontract/self-employed basis.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their work, has an excellent eye for detail and consistently produces a high-quality finish. This role is suited to an experienced decorator who understands that preparation is just as important as the final coat.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces thoroughly by cleaning, sanding, filling gaps, and applying primers to ensure optimal paint adhesion.
- Apply paints, varnishes, wallpapers, and other decorative finishes with precision and care.
- Use a variety of tools including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and scaffolding to complete projects efficiently.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to understand design specifications and ensure work meets expectations.
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations at all times.
- Manage time effectively to complete projects within scheduled deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Communicate clearly with team members and clients regarding progress, challenges, or adjustments needed during the project.
Essential requirements
Minimum 4 years’ professional painting and decorating experience
- Proven experience must be demonstrated on your CV, including previous employers/projects
- Full UK driving licence and own reliable transport
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong pride in workmanship
- High standards of preparation, including filling, sanding, caulking and surface preparation
- Able to achieve clean, sharp lines and a professional finish
- Experienced in both interior and exterior painting and decorating
- Able to work independently and manage your own workload
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Good communication and able to work respectfully around clients and other trades
- Keeps work areas clean, tidy and protected throughout the job
- Takes responsibility for the quality of their work and does not cut corners
- Able to work to deadlines while maintaining a high standard of finish
- Appropriate PPE and professional workwear
- Experience working on high-quality residential properties
- Experience working alongside building contractors and other trades
- Own professional tools and equipment
- References from previous clients, contractors or employers
- Relevant qualifications or trade certifications
We are not looking for someone who simply gets paint on the walls. We are looking for a skilled decorator who understands preparation, takes pride in the finished product and notices the small details that others miss.
You should be someone who can be trusted to turn up, get on with the work, keep the site tidy and leave a first-class finish without needing to be constantly supervised.
