About Us
Bedfordshire Growers is a large farming cooperative established in 1963. Started by a group of like-minded growers producing Brassica crops in the fertile soils of Bedfordshire. By the mid-70s Bedfordshire Growers was one of the foremost producers of Brussel Sprouts.
In 1980 Bedfordshire Growers started to commercially grow onions, initially Brown Onions followed by being the first company to introduce Red Onions to the UK.
Our primary focus is packing, and distributing our growers product to market. Established to support local farmers in Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas, the Company has evolved to become a key player in the UK’s fresh produce market.
The Role
We have opportunities for Machine Operatives to join our busy packhouse. Working safely and hygienically you will maintain production quality and volume targets. You will monitor work area to ensure the workplace is safe and all machinery is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure daily machine start up checks are completed.
- Constantly monitor packs per minute.
- Ensure that machines are set up in time for the next job, ensuring prompt changeovers whilst avoiding high downtime.
- Report any machine run rate issues that are having detrimental effect on safety or productivity.
- Immediately report underweights/miscounts and causations
- Ensure that any product produced, the net, film, label, product detail information is accurate.
Key Requirements
- Practical skills with strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work quickly and methodically.
- Good team working.
- Understanding of health and safety policies in the workplace.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Good product knowledge.
- Good communication skills and ability to understand instructions.
